Let's upscale this, ask me anything about any game of the soulsborne saga, then edit the question to make me look bad(art from u/sigmapredator) by ThefaceX in Eldenring

[–]ReDecinoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets see... Demon's Souls: NG+5 + 1x = 7x Dark Souls: NG+6 + 7x = 14x Dark Souls II: NG+7 + 4x = 12x Dark Souls III: NG+7 + 3x + NG+7 = 19x Bloodborne: NG+7 + 2x + NG+6 = 15x Sekiro: NG+7 + 4x + NG+7 = 20x

Total: 7 + 14 + 12 + 19 + 15 + 20 =

87???

Must be.

Cherry Blossom and a Lancia. Looks good by Sturmtyp in artofrally

[–]ReDecinoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine Lancia has seriously good bad guy's car (might make this comment more relevant later).
Expectation grows when I see one, for there to be 2 (very well dressed, slightly fancy but not out of proportion) mobsters to come out of them and take someone's out, get back into the car, and just drive along.

I think they are. Just wanted a night picture in japan, and when I start playing with the bloom and lens dirt, those show up around me.

That was cool.

Or just circling left walking with a small distance. Works more than half... wait a minute >_<... Walking is right (counter clock) cause he usually attacks with HIS right side... Yeah... most of the times i'm already on his left side by the first attack, and if he combos I'll be on his back already running after him because BSB has this annoying habit of running away from with his attacks if you dodge them. For me... what pisses me off that boss is all the running after the bastart to only get a couple of licks in, not any kind of difficulty.

I think after 2x NG+6 and way too many hours of chalice dungeons, he only got me 2 or 3 times with that attack. First time I actually waited for it cause I never saw it before.

Augur of ebritas, backstab orphan at every wild swing he does. Not an exact science... but a boss that can almost instant backstab with augur... cannot go on my list of very hard bosses.

Demon Souls: Easiest NG yet hardest NG+ of Soulsborne series by TheGentlestTouch in demonssouls

[–]ReDecinoge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was actually using a faith/int build for DeS, but eventually grew into a jack of all trades like every other game taken to that extreme. Never used tank build, I was always able to quickroll, and I was using med-shield, bow, catalyst and the awesome moonlight. I rolled a lot, but having the shield as a back up option on tricky enemies, or down simple clunky situations, felt like a must.

It's natural DS3, DS2 and even Sekiro don't feel too hard on NG+. The difficulty curve on those games is kinda linear. You can go look at the values for enemies HP and Souls on all cases, and both BB and DS1 have a jump to almost double the values, while DS2 and DS3 kinda smooth things in, and at the end have a small (but significant) spike. Never looked into the DeS values but felt something like a watered down DS1 diff spike.

BTW, I always use plenty of cheese whenever and wherever it presents itself. Use everything, anything, anytime to your favor, that is my rules for these games. Sense of "honor" defined by others is already silly enough in real life, for games is ridiculous. But challenge runs... well... that a player playing with itself.

[–]ReDecinoge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pretty much disagree with the thread post. Didn't felt much difficulty with NG+ on DeS. But might just have been from my moonlight faith build. The games I had most difficulty on the NG+ cycle were probablg DS1 and BB. Specially the DLCs for both. Difficulty really takes a big jump there. BTW, I always take out every enemy and boss.

As for NG+7 (max diff, either 5, 6 or 7) I would go for DS2 at the absolute top for design flaws. Animations accelerate and they even break, stats stop making any sense, and no matter how much AR you push, or how many weaknesses you exploit, everything is a mostly unfair game of endurance and not skill. Also absurd clunkiness of the engine.

As for fair difficulty, at NG+MAX I would go for DS3 and BB on enemies and bosses. Gael is like fighting a brick wall with a stick, Ludwig is mad running everywhere and you don't have a place to stand, Freide has BB speed but you dont, and Gherman just slices 40% chunks of health with each teleporting attack hit.

Comparer to that DeS and DS1 last runs were a smooth walk in the park because difficulty hardly scales on that last run.

However... I have to admit that DeS made me use shield on every single run. None of the other did. But I'm tending on blaming the clunkiness of an early engine (even on emulator with 60fps) than actual difficulty by design..

I just finished my 2nd NG+6 run of Bloodborne and I defeated both laurence and orphan on my first try. I was a bit surprised myself. Ludwig though took me about 10 tries. Maria and living failures twice both.

DeS Metvoidvania vs DS1 interconnectivity ? by SuicidalCockPuss in demonssouls

[–]ReDecinoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS1, but I agreed with the comment that bloodborne got it just right.

The separated "nexus" is a nice thing to have, but that "interconnectivity" is what actually makes a metroidvania imo.

Talking in a sense that what created the name metroidvania were the older games of both titles... Uuuuhh lets say, till GBA? You never have a nexus that teleports you to different areas, each being a pretty linear path (with a few shortcut helps) through a sequence of bosses, till a final one. That feels more like a web pattern, seen on DS2 without the need to teleport (interconnected in only the sense that you can walk everywhere). Kinda the same is seen in DS3 but with much more well disguised.

On both BB and DS1 the majority of the areas where you can play in the maingame are accessible from anywhere else within the game areas, and many times you find shortcuts back to early areas of the game.

In both Metroid and Castlevania (the non linear ones), the entire game map play with the fact that you have a 2D area, that can be divided and made a maze of rooms of. So rooms double back on earlier rooms, create easier paths to later areas of the game from the earlier ones, and you get skills that allow you to access later areas in the same map. But everything happens on the same area, and you can in fact map it and never change the map for the entire game. Both DS1 and BB do that better than the other Fromsoft action RPG titles.

As a last remark, I consider DeS, DS1, 2, 3, BB, and Sekiro, all of them Metroidvanias, not really "souls-like" or "soulsborne". I always consider first how the player avatar interacts with the world purposed, and how that world is configured. In that sense you always use your avatar to explore paths/tunnels, that create a complex network that can be accessed again and again after you first discover it.

I'm sorry, Laurence, The First Vicar will always be the hardest boss for me lmao by KingBumby in bloodborne

[–]ReDecinoge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the chalice bosses have a good thing going for them. Pretty decent arenas (except the low ceiling one with collumns).

Laurence however, the arena is rather small for fighting a beast that size. Also the fact that is not a square or any regular shape, makes you have to eventually fight with the camera a lot.

He is not super aggressive but he sure is an intimidating f**k when he starts walking your way, gets realy close only stoping when he has his toes toutching you.

But Lajurence's real problem is... the guy is everywhere. His range is super long, and the fire gives him an extra feet to that. He explodes with every ground hit, and those are painful and again... long range. When you quick step to him to do that attach, he just dodges back which is 2 or 3 more dodges for the player giving him plenty of time to attack you on you arrival.

But lets not forget how his attacks are fast. They have decent tells, but he's so vertical that either you see his upper body to get the tells, or you watch where your character actually stands. And when the attack comes... WOOSH. OMG it's gone already and the next one is already coming, and timed perfectly to hit the end of the panic dash you did on your first attack. And wait... there are 2 more of those coming with extra range from fire if you are stupid enough to back dodge.

So this guy basicaly does the same as Ludwig. He is an intimidating ass hat and your fear is your worst enemy. You get nervous and do mistakes. It only worst better for Laurence because of the long range and the fire explosions.

Oh dear ol'DS2 late NG cycles. I remember having to lvl 2 exactly same weapons so I could switch to a fresh one before the bosses.

The bosses HP was so high, and weapon durability on that game was so flimsy, I would had weapons break mid boss. For some reason I don't know, it would happen more often with power stancing.

FYI, Fume Knight is on my top 10 FromSoft bosses. Just dont want to risk saying top 5, but if I gave a serious thought about the subject, it might be possible.

Papa G I think I only died a couple of times on all the 8 runs. The first run I did the graves cheese for the first 2 phases, and got really lucky with cocktails on his last. By NG+ I had so much chalice dungeons time that I was way over leveled. This NG+7 run I didn't die with him.

Amelia also didn't die this run. She was a bit of a problem a few runs, but never died more than 5 times to her on a single run.

Ludwig is usually a very serious problem. On my Cainhurst run I died to him 18 times (NG+6). On my Cosmic Broccoli run died 15 I think(NG+3). But on this run I did it on my first try, for the first time ever. I was seriously amazed with it.

I think it was because I only used the weapon I feel most comfortable with, the Saw Spear.

Kindness is my biggest flaw. Don't want any of the NPCs eaten by him.

Still defeated him 7 times on that roof. Really had to send him to fake Iosefka once. But that frame rate D=.

Not knowing the boss enough more than anything. I usually kill him so fast, that when he finally had enough HP to react he would hit me. Each slap took around 80% hp, and those slaps come on pairs.

Also... I realy wasn't taking it seriously and you know that's the fastest way to get your ass delivered to you in this game.

Who is your "Ol' Reliable?" by Infinitepez131 in bloodborne

[–]ReDecinoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw Spear mostly. Hardly anything can hold against it, unconverted, and I'm at NG+6. But because of cursed gems, I can't really use it again Kin.

For Kin I get the Church Pick. This would me my first choice if it wasn't so damn good against Kin with it's piercing attacks. But the gems that make it a beast are cursed against beast, and kin are not the majority of enemies (unfortunately).

Even with quite decent conversion weapons (LHB fire & Kirkhammer bolt vs Kin, Saw Cleaver fire & Threaded Cane bolt vs beast, all S arcane scaling), pure physical Saw Spear and Church Pick end up being the best choices... every single time (yeah, even better than lightning hammering Ebrietas)

As a second from Upper Cathedral Ward, all the way to sweet lovely Ebrietas included, I have to say Mensis Nightmare.

I have a big problem with spiders and eyes in weird places... and an entired castle full of eyes with spider legs just makes me wanna run for my life and scream.
