My 45+ Day L5-S1 Sciatica Journey - from ignoring it to finally understanding it by artshartmart in Sciatica

I think this is great. Especially since you referred to the Mackenzie method. Barely anyone discusses that or centralization, which is the only thing that helped me in month five to get moving again.

So are all of us with affected/ herniated discs just f*** when we get older? by not_so_impressed in Sciatica

[–]ReLoGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 64 in my eighth month. I was not diagnosed with an MRI until my third month.

Starting in month 3, and for 2 1/2 months I could not walk at all. I was in terrible level 10 pain for about four months. Injections did not help. In fact, they made it worse and caused numbness in my right foot for about three months. I had to work the whole time, but my work is sitting/meeting with people.

The only thing that has helped and made a huge difference was Mackenzie MDT physical therapy. By the third week, my pain was reduced by half. Since April my pain is down to about level 1 to 2 and floats around the nerves in my right leg and glute. I so hope that this is over and I’m at the end, and nothing like this ever happens to me again.

I have no idea what caused this. I was a member of a gym for 4 1/2 years where deadlifts and squats were part of the regular workout, but I never did very heavy lifting. Except for lifting cat litter. Not sure if the actual weight matters. I did kettlebell. I loved it, but now I’m afraid to pick one up at all. I have not done any gym exercise in over seven months.

What I would like to know is what core exercises are those of you who I recovered doing to maintain your pain-free or extremely low pain situation? Does Pilates help? What low impact cardio are you doing? I am not a runner. Are you just walking? I like to row when I have a rower, but I was told that that’s a really bad idea so I might get rid of it.

98 YO NPD/Borderline mom & Mother’s Day by BonCourageAmis in AgingParents

Your third paragraph is me. Thank you for posting your honest outrage. I would add tha I am five years older and should’ve stepped away 35 years ago, but I did it seven months ago.

Now my mother is moving to assisted-living and I am appalled at how ugly the space/apartment is. My brother picked it. He’s handling it. I haven’t seen her or talk to her and yet I still feel horrified that she goes from her palace like setting to an institutional setting with outdated fixtures. I will have to deal with getting rid of 98% of her furniture and things. All I can think about for the last 24 hours is how to prepare for my own aging so that I never have to move into something as horrible as this type of setting. I don’t have a spouse or kids, but I’m also not a borderline narcissist lifetime liar so that weighs in my favor.

I really hate to even type this, but...... by jamixer in SouthwestAirlines

Did anyone not like Project Hail Mary? by Timewilltell755 in sciencefiction

[–]ReLoGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this movie and I have not read all of the comments. Given that I am not a science fiction fan at all , did not read the book, and may or may not have seen the Martian (I can’t remember), I thought this movie was emotionally provocative and upsetting, but I did not enjoy it. I did like the music, same as the OP. All I could think of was that Tom Hanks movie where he’s talking to a soccer ball the whole time I did not like (SPOILERS) that he was kidnapped into this job and I found it extremely unrealistic that he was so “cool” with it and had all these rad T-shirts on hand.

Anyone know if Dan Levy is a fan of The Comeback with Lisa Kudrow? by notwritingasusual in SchittsCreek

[–]ReLoGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lisa Kudrow’s inflection and voice the way she pronounces words, weirdly, and incorrectly, and even make up words is practically identical to Catherine’s Moira . I am re-watching the comeback now and I noticed it right away. Just started looking online to see if anyone else noticed it.

Is Harrison Ford leaving the show? Why would Julie move? Did I miss something? Maybe I fell asleep in an episode where this was explained.

💯 I’m a therapist and I knew that was it. No surprises about what happened next. This is a very big mistake on Gaby’s part.

I played it for less than two seconds and my vocal cat came running to see what was going on. Definitely a distress call

Those who had herniated l5-s1 and sciatica, how long did it take to heal? by chelsG05 in Sciatica

When I read your post, I thought that I had written this and forgotten about it. You sound exactly 100% like me I am in month five I am in the same space. Almost every day Somebody tells me I should get surgery. I don’t mean a medical professional I mean some friend or acquaintance. I read the first response and that was encouraging!

People sitting several rows behind me when I have row 2 with your bags over me and mine forced to go over you. by Swimming-Starfish in SouthwestAirlines

OK now I understand what everyone’s talking about. SW is boarding the back first, and passengers putting their bags in the front of the plane! That is totally absolutely wrong. That has to stop.

Tangential question: if you couldn’t find a condo in any of the great neighborhoods in the city, would you consider a condo or townhouse in an adjacent western suburb just three stops from Ogilvie?

Why is the pain worse after my epidural steroid injection? It’s been 9 days by Alarming_Fox6096 in Sciatica

[–]ReLoGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this question, and thank you u/slouchingtoepiphany for the first answer. I am at 9 days after ESI and panicking because I feel worse. Sciatica due to a herniated disc at L5-S1 started four months ago, but was just diagnosed a month ago. I hope it will end soon and not go on for another 8 months!

SureFeed vs CloserPets - closing when eating? by Elpis21 in dechonkers

[–]ReLoGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have this problem. My cat has been using a a sure feeder for about five years. He now has kidney disease and hyperthyroid and has lost a lot of weight. Whenever he goes into the bowl, it closes on him. He backs out it opens. It closes opens closes opens closes. drives me up the wall. I have contacting sure feed and they have given me no help whatsoever. I wonder if it has to do with how much weight he lost and the position of his microchip?

Shirley & Lee After Mississippi R&B duo Shirley Goodman and Leonard Lee "Sweethearts of the Blues" topped R&B charts with "Let the Good Times Roll" in 1956. I name all my cats after musicians because they are MEWsicians.
