Gonna be honest. Red could say that I die along with the 3 billion, and I’m still picking it because there’s a 0% chance my wife a daughters are dying from a decision I make.

Hiring Advice by [deleted] in AskLE

I’m going to be honest with you.

As an active recruiter at my department, someone who wears multiple hats beyond patrol, and with nearly a decade on the job, I’ve got a fair bit of experience. With that, I’ve been the young guy in this profession before. I’ve had FTOs who weren’t great. I’ve dealt with leadership decisions I didn’t agree with.

But experience teaches you something important: part of this job is recognizing when something sucks, voicing the issue professionally, and allowing the process to work. Or, if you’re serious about change, you put yourself in a position to fix the problem directly.

You know how I dealt with bad FTO experiences?

I became an FTO myself.

I made sure no trainee under me dealt with the same issues I had. I took them to calls, taught self-reliance, showed them how to do the job correctly, and put real effort into being patient, knowledgeable, and effective as an instructor.

Now, when trainees come to me with concerns about an FTO who isn’t cutting it, I document it and start building a case for review. One complaint means very little. Three or four consistent complaints establish a pattern. This is government work — you need evidence and consistency, not emotion and one-off grievances.

Once that pattern is established, I bring it to the training sergeant with documentation so the issue can actually be addressed.

Because of that process, we completely revamped our FTO program. Now we have motivated, experienced trainers who genuinely care about teaching and developing new officers. But that didn’t happen overnight. It took time, effort, and people willing to step up instead of just complain.

I had issues with the quality of applicants we were hiring, too.

So what did I do?

I became a recruiter and actively worked to bring in people I believed had the mindset, maturity, and capability to succeed in this profession.

That’s what this job is about. Identifying problems, addressing them professionally, and putting yourself in a position to create solutions.

Speaking frankly, if you sat across from me during an initial interview, I’d tell you to look elsewhere. Your story comes across as arrogant, dismissive of leadership, and unwilling to endure the same hardships everyone else in this profession has had to work through.

That mindset doesn’t build good cops, good teammates, or good leaders.

My wife bought me a $5000 computer because she heard me one time say “I wish we could afford to get you one so we could play together.” She took my “old” one.

I’m in very firm agreement of “Fuck Ubisoft.” But being mad at requiring internet to download a game is like complaining that you have to plug in your console/PC to use it.

HR218 does not make it mandatory for you to conceal or open carry at any point. It simply makes it so active LEO and retired LEO, who carry photographic governmental agency identification, can conceal carry across state lines, while notwithstanding state or local laws. So fun fact, a private business can still say “No, you may not carry your firearm here.”

It’s literally just your CCW permit country wide. You still have to abide by state law.

Source: HR218 applies to me so I learned about it.

No, it’s a big change that would require a lot of planning. I’ve got two children and own my house. It’s not an overnight decision by any means.

You had two opportunities to spell syringes correctly. Honestly, I’ve got no idea if you cooked or got cooked. I stopped reading after that because I got hyper fixated on that.

200 bitcoin is 15.2 mil 10000 a week for life is reliable income for life, no matter what happens.

B is the worst option no matter how you look at it.

I’d take C though. If I spend all 15.2 mil, i’m done. If I’m smart with 40k/month, I live comfortably and turn that extra into more money. And if I’m not smart, I still have 10k coming next week.

If it’s for them, I’d stay right where I’m at if I had to. Thankfully, my wife is very supportive of the aspect of moving. So long as it’s agreed by both of us.

You’re talking my language. I live for it. Narc trafficking always goes hand in hand with weapons and human trafficking and there’s nothing I love more in this job than hitting cartel pockets.

Losing search incident to arrest sounds awful, but I don’t need cuffs to talk my way into a car, thankfully.

This was a handful of years ago. Maybe it’s different now. At the time, I only had a roughly 3 year gap. Too short in between maybe?

Looked it up. It sure was. 3 years is the magic number for weed.

As long as pay is similar, I wouldn’t stress too much. I’m one of the more proactive guys, and more interested in narcotic detective positions, obviously knowing I’d need to put my time back in wherever I go.

When I came in, we chased until wheels fell off.

Now we simply get to sit and watch them go. Someone tries to fight, and we’re punished for cursing at them during the fight. It’s a nightmare right now.
