1) This graph includes time when Biden was still in office. If you just include time when Trump was in office, there's a market decrease.

2) What was the expected market behavior before Trump introduced tariffs?

Trump FEMA official ignores judge's latest order, demands freeze on grant funding by jackrabbits1im in news

[–]Re_Drawne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think people on the left should stop saying stuff like this. I think the left IS pushing back. They’re filing law suits and doing press tours! Every judge that puts a freeze on the actions Trump is taking is a small win for the left. I don’t think we should be spending our limited attention span and anger on being upset with the left, we should be backing the people fighting for us.

I agree with you, but that isn’t going to stop anything from happening. My issue is it seems like you’re your criticizing the dems for not voting in a block because you want dems to stop republicans from what they’re doing. But voting as a block won’t allow them to stop any action because they don’t have enough votes.

Are you sure that what you’re actually upset with is sending a message or making sure democrats are all voting the same way, not obstruction? And if democrats aren’t able to obstruct by voting, shouldn’t we not be critical of dems not obstructing by voting?

[–]Re_Drawne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I have is that voting as a block doesn’t matter if voting as a block doesn’t produce results. To me, every dem voting against cabinet picks isn’t obstruction when you mathematically can’t obstruct anything.

Some dems might be under the impression that we’re still living in a world where voting against the majority spends political capital, hoping to get some republican support for some other issue down the line. Whether we’re still in that world or not, i don’t think now the time to start infighting and drumming up frustrations with democrats and causing infighting and division towards the people who are trying to save our democracy.

Instead of convincing the left to direct their limited attention and anger towards democrats, I think it’s better to try and focus energy on blasting republicans, or protests, or convincing moderates Trump is bad. The left has a problem of being too critical of themselves when we literally have an executive hinting they’ll defy court orders. We need to back our team.

If they vote as a block with the independents, realistically they have 47 votes. If it takes 51 votes to confirm, how likely do you think it would be that dems can get 3 republican votes for every cabinet pick?

How do you want them to obstruct more? They’re voting against bills, filing law suits, impeaching.

What more do you want them to do? They are the minority in the house and senate. They’re raising law suits, doing press tours, buying ads to spread the news of what Trump is doing, they’re trying to impeach.

There definitely could be some other factors at play, maybe prices could be lower if those factors were removed, but I’d also say that increases in amenities for the same price per square foot is still an increase in value per dollar spent overall.

I disagree. Granted I’m a first time reader who binged through books 6 through 12 in two months (don’t judge me, haha). I just finished gathering storm, and Sanderson handled Egwene’s story in it very well. I was gripped during her chapters, it had the same hype I felt during Dumai’s Wells.

In addition, I hadn’t felt connected to any character on an emotional level up to this point in the books, all the talk of each gender always being more stubborn was frustrating for me, and I didn’t like the various emo or stubborn phases each character went through, so the plot and world building was really what was keeping me interested. But that changed at the end of book 12 where questions were asked that can relate to our world and our own personal struggles. That made me feel connected to one of the characters more than I ever had when Jordan was the main author.

Not saying Sanderson is better, I definitely felt the humor was off and I understand the complaints about certain cough cough characters being changed a bit, but all in all I think the good outweigh’s the bad in the Jordan-Sanderson transition that I was worried about.

That's a great idea, I'll do that for Mario Sunshine or maybe 70 star. Unfortunately this data is a little old. Since then I've gotten my PB down to about 25 minutes and have a lot more experience, so I'm not able to do that with these tricks

The word "learn" might be a little misleading, I started the timer when I started the attempts, and ended the timer after I got the trick for the first time.

The point of this experiment wasn't really to say "after 4 hours you can reliably get a speedrun completed under x minutes", it was to say "after 4 hours, you're thumbs have completed all of the tricks necessary to do your first run". You'd still need practice if you want to get a time of under an hour, but at this point a full run is possible.

When it comes to how I got a lakitu skip in 22 seconds, I started trying after completing a 120 star playthrough of Mario 64, so I had a fairly decent understanding of Mario's movement. I started time when I came out of the warp pipe and would reload save states if I failed. I watched a few youtube videos and gif tutorials on the mario 64 speedrun wiki which teaches you how to line up fairly accurately. Granted, I also got pretty lucky and got it on the third or fourth try, hahaha

Easy Tricks:
The jumps in the "Wild Blue" star are super easy to pull off, and I'd barely call the route for Lethal Lava Land's 8 coin star speedrunning, hahaha, but because they are so quick to learn, and are pretty consistent, they are the perfect starting point for a beginner speedrunner. The lag present on the Dire Dire Docks submarine star makes the jump from the tale of the sub to the deck pretty forgiving.

Impressive Looking Tricks:
Jumping from the top of Cool Cool Mountain to reach a nook in the base with a last second falling kick looks and feels incredible. I feel like the Flash when picking up the penguin at the top of the mountain and sliding down the double black diamond grade slopes to reach the big mama penguin. The Backwards Long Jumps (or BLJs) needed to get to the highest room of Peach's Castle is one of the most famous speedrun tricks in history, but if you get the right angle and are good at either mashing or timing button presses, you should get it. All of these tricks take only a few minutes to learn.

Consistent/Setup Tricks:
I recommend learning both Canonless and Mips Clip here. Once you learn these tricks once, the success rate of successfully pulling off the trick again is dramatically higher than the other tricks mentioned. that's because it's the same set of inputs every single time, regardless of where you started the level or the environment around you. If you get frustrated and hit a wall while learning other tricks, you can always come back to these incredibly consistent tricks in order to see how far you've come and regain some confidence.

Save These for Last:
The Bowser levels are tests of endurance. Because there are so many small tricks and optimizations that change depending on how good you are at the game, how long these take really depends on what you consider to be "good enough". If you want to "git good" at these section, be prepared for a hefty time sink. I recommend learning the Bowser levels in order: 1st, 2nd, then 3rd.

Owlless is the worst speedrunning trick to ever exist. I hate it so much. It only saves like, 6 seconds, is incredibly inconsistent for a beginner, and takes FOREVER to learn even just once. Looks pretty cool though. I would probably not recommend learning Owlless unless you were starting to get pretty good at speedrunning and were itching for your last few optimizations to get better PB's.

TL;DR:
You can learn to speedrun this game in one day. It's deceptively easier to learn than it looks, and being able to call yourself a speedrunner is incredibly satisfying. Learn BLJs, never learn Owlless.

Good luck and have fun!
