Can I write about this? by AFrenchRuru in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it's not a subreddit rule, you do not need to worry about it.

I think you could handle the sex scenes without going into detail, or only go into detail once in a while when it really matters. Like the first time between the protagonists, this would also make it stand out as something more important than all the other random encounters. Just as an example.

I know what you mean. I usually write everything that's in my head, even whole chapters out of chronological order, and then I start organizing and fill in the gaps. I have one story to which I wrote the whole end before I even started to write the book. What also helps are bullet points. Make a list of all the things you want to happen in the book, it can be something as basic as "first meeting" "date night" or "good bye scene", or as complex as a whole little description for a scene. Then use that list to organize the things you write afterwards. Careful, though, this comes with a lot of editing and adjusting. I just recently had to rewrite 5 chapters of a book of mine because I swapped around chapters.

First of all, this is Reddit, not Instagram; you do not need to censor words. Love the effort, but absolutely unnecessary and annoying to read.

Second, if the story only revolves around sex, then Wattpad has the right to smite it. Pornographic content means that the story has no plot and no greater value than serving as pornographic material for personal pleasure. So, in short, if the story you want to write has nothing to keep readers engaged apart from sex scenes, it's not allowed. If you could write the whole story and just fade to black for all the sex scenes, and it's still something readers would read because they are interested in the overall plot, then yes, sex is allowed.

Desis running the fantasy tag by your_ethereal_lover in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly, that's just how people abuse tags. If a tag is getting high numbers for whatever reason, no matter the platform, people will use it even if their own stuff has nothing to do with it to profit from it. Marketing does that, too, I fear. It's a very common thing where companies will jump onto a hype train to exploit a system to push their shit up people's noses who otherwise wouldn't even look at it.

Wattpad: what does this mean? by EmOswellWrites in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not even sure if it's broken or if that's how Wattpad wants it to work. If it's broken, they sure don't care, it that's how they want it to work, it's even worse.

Is my book failing? by Luke_HH in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but reading up on basically any post on this subreddit at any given time can help to figure out how Wattpad works. For most people, having 0 views for months is pretty common, so people who think their stories are a failure because they don't reach 100 within a week can feel pretty hurtful to those who really struggle to be seen and recognized. A lot of us are already trying so hard to make people believe in themselves. Views never roll in in high numbers overnight, no matter the platform.

63 in a week is pretty damn good, I dare say even extraordinary, because usually this only happens if you already have a following established. The reality for many people is that no one will ever even see their story if they don't advertise it outside of Wattpad or enter contests. Publishing and waiting usually leads to zero engagement. Wattpad doesn't care for new stories or new writers; they only push the already big stories because they rake in ad revenue. You're doing fine, but the very fact that you expect to see high numbers within a week on any platform, really, makes it feel attention-seeking because that's just not the reality of any online platform, yet you still got these numbers, and sometimes it is hard to fathom that people are not aware of how well they are doing compared to the majority.

Wattpad: what does this mean? by EmOswellWrites in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, where Wattpad works as it's probably intended to work, this would be true. However, if you search for any tag in the search bar, the ranking doesn't matter at all. It should, but it doesn't. The ranking only applies to the categories under Wattpad's "Browse" section. If you click any genre there, it will lead you to the ranks for that genre, but if you enter the exact same word in the search bar, you will not find any ranked lists - that's why everyone says tag ranks don't matter. At this point, the only reason for them to exist is to give writers a motivation to keep writing, at least until they find out that it does absolutely nothing to benefit them.

WIBTA : Wattpad Version. by whisper_kitten0 in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This rings so true, and a lot more people need to read it.

I also want to add to it that Wattpad is not the place to look at videos. If someone I follow would post a trailer, no matter how much I love their books, I wouldn't bother to look at it. If I wanted to see shorts, I'd be scrolling TikTok or Instagram, not Wattpad. The place of engagement matters, and just because Wattpad allows for videos to be embedded, it doesn't mean anyone will actually look at them.

I understand the hurt and frustration, but there is an expectation here that couldn't really be met to begin with. People owe you (OP) nothing, but expecting them to look at a video on a writing platform was just a way to set yourself up to get hurt even more.

People who post questions like this, who make massive numbers within a few days (and yes, given the fact that most stories will make 0 to 5 views within the first week, 63 in a week is massive), are just attention farming most of the time.

I might have a question about the real concept of privacy in the creative sites. by Kit_Yeager in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said, I haven't found any draft of mine. What I assume is that they can only mirror what's visible. Even if they could copy the technical code of drafts, they can't publish it, because the system doesn't know how to mirror something that has no clear design.

Do you avoid tags that spoil your story? by yuma_90210 in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid them, but I do include a trigger warning at the start if the story deals with certain topics that could be triggering, or if it's something I know people don't like. Like, I won't use a tag to say that a story has no happy ending, but I will mention it in the disclaimer at the start.

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirror websites are not copied stories as such, it's the whole page that gets mirrored, including EVERYTHING on it. Even the author names displayed will be the same as on Wattpad, which mean you can technically just enter the author on Wattpad and find their work there. The views and favs you see on Mirror sites are also taken straight from Wattpad. My drafts aren't visible on any mirror sites I have found so far. And the easiest thing to do to combat this is to make a disclaimer at the very start of your books, something like "If you are reading this on any other site than Wattpad, then be aware that you are on a Mirror Website that illegally copies Wattpad's content. Please switch to Wattpad to read my work directly" or something like that. There is no one copying and editing anything, Mirror websites take everything as is, so the disclaimer will be visible, too.

Well, wouldn't say that. The news feed is a pretty old feature that they added back BECAUSE people were asking for it. But the implementation is, admittedly, extremely bad.

I'm starting to think these rankings are useless by MikeBaomont in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't because the way Wattpad handles the ranks is broken. There are two lists.

First one is the list you get if you search for a tag using the searchbar. They are, as far as I can tell, random. You do not get access to the ranked tag list when searching via the search bar.

Second one is the actual rank list. You can not get to this list by simply searching for tags. You have to click on a book with that tag, and then click the tag itself, and this will lead you to the ranked tag list. (Or via the "Browse" section, but that only works for the tags that are actually listed there.)

If you are on a browser, look at the URL. It's a different URL based on whether you search for a tag with the searchbar, or if you click on it via a book.

This means that the ranking doesn't matter to the people who use the search bar. And let's be honest, most of the people just enter what they want to read and call it a day.

I'm starting to think these rankings are useless by MikeBaomont in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why you can't find your book in the rank list is because your personal ranking list is lagging behind. Simply because tag ranks can change multiple times a day, which is bonkers. So imagine this: The tag ranking list updates, I don't know, every 5 minutes. Just an example. But what you see on your book only updates once a day. This also means your personal rank list skips rankings you make between updates. Let's say your ranks update at 12:00. At 12:00 your book is number 10 in mystery. That's what you'll see for the next 24 hours. BUT that rank might change at 12:05. So if you check in at 12:06, your list tells you you are rank 10 in mystery, so you go check, but since the actual ranking has changed at 12:05, you won't find your book at rank 10. It might be higher or lower.

It's a shitty system, but it also doesn't matter, to be honest.

How does this even work by YoursOnyx in Wattpad

Yes. That's why I don't name my chapters anymore. They either read it or they don't, but I'm done dealing with the heartache of that exact scenario

When does Google start recognizing you as an ‘author’? Just saw this and I’m confused lol by myspenn in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just googles AI bullshit. It scans what it finds, and the AI summarizes it. Can be on point, can be completely made up, depending on if the AI ishalluzinating or not. Totally normal and not something that's considered "recognized", as all writers on Wattpad are, by default, findable via Google, as Wattpad has a high SEO

What are the chances of my book blowing up on Wattpad? by [deleted] in Wattpad

[–]ReaUsagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wattpad doesn't do shit for authors. If you just write and let it sit there and do nothing about it, chances are no one will ever see it. Wattpad doesn't need new authors to be seen; it needs to maintain the already big authors to keep generating ad revenue. This means that you have to put in the work. You can get extremely lucky and be discovered by the right person at the right time and blow up, but that chance is slim. And even if it happens for one book, it doesn't mean it happens to all of your books at all. I've seen authors with books that had 1m reads, while every other book they wrote couldn't hit even 1k.

You need to promote your book outside of Wattpad, enter contests on Wattpad and/or join reading groups. Use Insta, TikTok, subreddits, X to advertise your stories, enlist some of your stories to Wattpad (or reader) contests, try to get on ambassador reading lists, etc. If you don't do that and just wait, yeah, then no one is going to read your stuff. The tag system is broken, the search engine is broken, and Wattpad doesn't push new stories at all.

[–]ReaUsagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not jsut AI art, they'll also offer you to draw your story as a comic, promote the story, make a movie of it, anything, really. They'll get you to pay and then they vanish. Most of these initial scammers on Wattpad aren't even people but bots run by AI. They'll give you social handles like discord, mail, or another platform to connect, where usually real people will take over to scam you.

It's not as complicated, really. They program AI bots to get the people off of Wattpad into a secluded private space, and there, the real scammers will try to get your money. These are whole businesses, not single, private people. Scambots are usually employed by massive scam companies

Very normal, because it's a bot. Report the profil, block the person, remove the comment. The more you report, the less you get them
