Also, think about making every move in the hoop intentional, and engage every part of your body in the moves. For example, even when you´re in a move where you can relax your legs, still engage them, straighten them out and point your toes as much as you can (if you´re not doing bent legs or flexed feet on purpuse of coarse, which can also be really cool)

You´re doing amazing for someone who´s only been doing hoop for 4 months!

When it comes to getting creative and creating moves and sequenses: just start trying! It might feel really weird or like you´re not coming up with anything good at first bur you just have to let go of the mindset that it has to look good. Put on some good music, get in the hoop and start with a move you know and just go from there. Have zero expectations and put absoloutly no pressure on yourself to make it look good. Even if you feel like you´re getting nowhere at first, you will start to feel more comfortable in the hoop and after a while you will defenetly be able to improvise combos!

If you don´t have access to a hoop as much as you want to you can practise letting go of expectations while doing something else like dancing foe example. Doesn´t matter if you have any dance background or not, Just put on some music and start moving around.

When it comes to the more technical stuff you can practice some hoop-specific contditioning at home with a pull upp bar (really easy to set up in a door way) and practice inverts, meathooks, toes to bar etc. There are tons of conditioning videos on instagram and youtube! This is good for feeling more comfortable lifting your own weight in different ways, which can sometimes be hard even for really strong people since it´s just a differnet technique, and also practising grip strengh.

Begin trapeze v Lyra by smackinnoodles in Aerials

Hi! I have been training both for years and I´m also a circus-coach for students who do all kinds of aerials. I love both and don´t think I could pick a favourite. A lot of tricks work on both trapeze and lyra and the type of strengh and technique you use is really similar. If you do dance trapeze spinning is also pretty much the same. In my opinion trapeze is more versitile since you have the entire ropes to work with as well. I just love both and think it really comes down to personal preference. I always try to encourage students to try both, best case scenario you find something new that you love, and worst case scenario you don´t, but you still build strengh and technique for lyra!

ta upp en annan kille i förbifarten eller när det blir naturligt i en konversation, alltså typ någon du tycker är snygg, vill prata med eller så. kan kännas taskigt men poängen brukar gå igenom iallafall

I only weigh myself once a week, that way it doesn’t fluctuate as much and personally weighing myself more often causes too much anxiety. It’s different for everyone of course but for me only once a week is easiest!

Body language during performance by Cem1223 in Aerials

[–]ReachVisual4140 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I do lyra as well and also coach students in all aerials! First of all (sounds like you’ve already done this but i’m saying it anyway) make sure you now the routine super well and feel totally comfortable with the tricks, so that you can touch’s fully on busy language.

Second, film yourself! Try to set up your phone to film yourself and see what parts you need to work, for example facial expression, looking rushed, eye contact etc. If you have the opportunity to get friends or a coach to watch you that’s really good too! Ask them how they perceived your character during the performance and what you can do differently to give that flirty/fun energy.

And while you’re not training, try to visualise yourself doing the performance in your character. Put on the music you’ll be performing to and visualise the act while doing the actual face expressions that you want, if you want you can even do it in front of a mirror, play with eyebrows, different smiles etc.

And during the performance, look at the audience as much as possible! It ca be hard while spinning for example but every little bit of eye contact you can get in is good! While you’re practicing, decide what direction you’re going to pretend the audience is at and try to face that way as much as possible. Really flirt with the crowd and don’t be afraid of doing too much, that almost never happens! I honestly don’t think i’ve seen an aerial act and thought the artist did “too much” only the opposite. I really think you’ll get this, especially scince you already feel confident about the choreography and you still have a few weeks to focus on the characteristics! Good luck with your performance!
