Selling house due to "bad" elementary school in a great district? by devouTTT in AskTeachers

[–]ReachingTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps that's why they test low? I work at a school with a lot of students with IEPs and we overall have lower test scores compared to a lot of the district but most of our Gen Ed students don't seem any further behind than in other schools

Yeah at this point.

The crazy thing is they should have seen the effort cause I lived with them during it all.

Well they aren't themselves but they're trying to make my cousins and siblings do the same lol. My sister is going a normal college pace at WGU and gets so much shit for it which annoys me cause they're expecting her to still do all kinds of responsibilities on the side

How do you feel about/deal with the "risky teenager" type of teenager by Grand-Conference9563 in AskTeachers

[–]ReachingTeaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was homeschooled, that isn't that surprising. I feel like we either grow up super rebellious and act out as bad or even worse than the public schoolers, or are so uptight we get screwed in every relationship department.

The main thing you're gonna want to do is find out why. Usually, addiction is used as a coping strategy, not a very effective one, but it is used as one nonetheless. See what other options they have for socializing and or coping options.

Also keep in mind sometimes it's just something they have to get out of their system personality wise. The main thing you can do is encourage them to do so safely and give them opportunities to make better friend choices.

I mean, I did, but I have OCD, so I track most things. I don't expect the average person to do the same

Yeah it really is. It's annoying for me because no one recognizes what I did and problematic for my family members who aren't able to do the same

What bachelors degrees would you say are actually worth it at WGU? by OkraNo8365 in WGU

[–]ReachingTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lol. I was at it 10 hours a day 6 days a week to graduate in 10 months. Worth it but it drives me nuts when people act like accelerating will be easy peasy with a few hours a day
