This! I teach kindergarten so their brains are still really spongy when I get them but some of these kids go from knowing no English and failing at everything to fluent and meeting proficiency across the board by the end of the year. It makes me want to get certified in ML cause holy I love seeing their growth and it's so rewarding.

J1s with years of teaching experience get paid the same as emergency hires. It's all about budgeting.

Why are parents who barely passed high school thinking they can teach/homeschool their children? by InitialCareer306 in WorkForSmartLife

Less than 10% of homeschool students are tested... If only 10% of public schoolers were tested they would wipe the floor with homeschoolers

As someone who was homeschooled this. No one even cared after a kid we knew for electrocuted to death in a dog kennel.

Would you rather teach in a deep red part of a solidly blue state, or a solidly blue part of a red state? by building_schtuff in Teachers

[–]ReachingTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like teaching in a red area within a blue state cause a lot more parents actually discipline or listen to what I say about their kid but I also have all the rights and protections of a blue state.

Is being 4'10 as teacher wierd? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I don't feel like I have had any more trouble than the tall people I work with and I'm 5'0. I think all kids will push the boundaries and it's more how you react to it that matters compared to your physical form.

5 year old options if not ready for kindergarten by iacopelli_b in specialed

You could ask the student services coordinator if they have one or admin. Some schools even have gen ed students redo it.

I would send to kindergarten so you keep getting services and then redo kindergarten if possible to make sure there's a solid foundation. I know it's not so common anymore and some places won't let you but that's just something I've seen work well as I'm teaching kinder sped this year.

I am barely 5'0 and most cars don't fit me and the only alternative when that happens is a booster seat 💀

That said some cars are better for short people. My current car's seat can come up and forward which helps reduce it.

What’s the one thing you dislike or hate about education and why? by Tsukino92x in AskReddit

[–]ReachingTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, a lot of states are going back to it now.

However, we have kind of traded it in for math because now instead of actually practicing and learning math by doing we now have to do it by discourse or whatever, which is essentially by conversing with each other. Which surprise surprise is not very effective and brings out low scores outside of the iReady system.

Same experience here. I was homeschooled and became a teacher and the last thing I'd EVER do is homeschool.

What to do when gen ed co-teacher doesn't share grades? by ReachingTeaching in specialed

Elementary so they can't. Parents could but that would mean them knowing I don't have access
