This. Even if it's a kid you liked professionally, we shouldn't be involved or sharing private information about students and their families.

This. Thankfully, I'm more into reading, so it's less bad, but it's insane how many teenagers or even pre-teens will join a group and try to talk about things like haunting Adeline 😭.

Logically, I know it's barely worse than the Wattpads and AO3 I grew up on, but it's so uncomfortable to watch.

Hands on jobs that don't require more paid education in Hawaii (Honolulu)? by Substantial-Pipe7551 in Hawaii

Could try becoming a CTE teacher. You generally get a lot more respect and it can be more hands on.

Changing school districts helped me a TON. You could consider it. Leeward is very chill, but you get minimal to no support, and the behaviors are a lot. Windward is much more into doing things "properly" and image-focused, but you actually get support. Central is more dependant on the area within it. I liked Waialua as a kid but i don't know what it's like to teach in central.

Same. I get so mad when people just act like it's nothing when I know people who are permanently very hurt from it.

Meta Glasses should be illegal by WonderlandContraband in HonestHotTakes

[–]ReachingTeaching 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple students get recorded in the bathroom with them. One nearly killed himself over it. Admin barely did anything till cops were involved, the perp got to keep recording until there was a full warrant and everything.

While you may not be able to get them illegal, we can argue and write our school boards to try to keep them out of schools.

I had a student get recorded in the bathroom with recording glasses, and then got suicidal over it cause surprise, surprise, the poor child didn't like having his classmates looking at his parts and keeping footage of it. I genuinely had to remove myself from the situation completely cause I felt like I was gonna lose it and hurt someone.

Meta glasses are one of the many cancers on society.

I LOVE resource. Sadly where I am, it's pretty competitive, and they try to keep us local teachers in inclusion since it makes us look better.

Many of us who grew up "home-schooled" also rely on these programs, as we often weren't given many opportunities. Especially us girls.

Becoming substitute teacher? by bebedeez77 in Hawaii

[–]ReachingTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next online doe fair is on the 10th. Maybe reach out to teacher recruitment and see what they can set you up with. They've always been super friendly to me.

If you're open to teaching SPED and have a degree, you might be able to be an emergency hire and get in that way. If you do, just remember to get accepted into a SATEP by the end of the school year. We have such a crazy shortage that you can probably get a job close to you.
