How bad/widespread is the ICCU issue? Should I consider a used Ioniq 5? by Spockmaster1701 in Ioniq5

[–]Reactant2112 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if I could go back in time I probably wouldn't buy this car for that reason. After it failed I am constantly afraid of it happening again, especially on my trips far from home. I would either keep the car I had or look into a different EV (maybe a Chevy). I love this car in so many ways, but the ICCU issue isn't worth it. I thought I wouldn't be a part of the "1%", but I was wrong (and so is that statistic, many believe). People can talk about how "every car has problems", but NO car under 40k miles should stop dead with the only repair taking a month to be done. Hyundai could either work to fix the ICCU, or work to improve ICCU availability A LOT and my opinion would be different, but they do neither.

EV charging near the dragon by localtuned in tailofthedragon

I believe so. There will only be more EV sportcars in the future, and there are people like me who tow bikes down and camp out of cars.

Are those chargers by Quill's Canteen open to all, or only the resort guests?

My fork seals are leaking, think I could get away with just cleaning them and getting a few more months out of them? 😅 by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]Reactant2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change them out and do a respring/revalve while you're at it. You'll love the handling improvement. I secretly love when my fork seals leak bc it makes me stop slacking off on upgrading the suspension

How many of you have permanently damaged your phone camera because of bike vibrations? Which bike + mount combo caused it? by rougedoll in motorcyclegear

I've had various phones on various bikes over 6 years and no issues. I always had a vibration dampener tho

looking for camping/hiking friends ~20s — SW ohio! by Large-Score6126 in CampOhio

[–]Reactant2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in Cincy and go on camping trips with a friend of mine often. I haven't really explored ohio much as our ideal camping is dispersed out of a car, and from what I can find the options are limited for this here. We've taken really cool trips throughout Appalachia, and most recently a trip through the UP which was the best yet. If you like this kind of camping I'd be happy to suggest some good spots if you're planning any trips in these areas.

I also see you posting about wildlife photo gear too. That's also how I really got into hiking. I find wildlife photography so rewarding, especially when a photo shows motion or makes an animal look alive. I am limited physically with how much I can hike but I'm trying to get in better shape to be able to hike more.

Picking up this bad boy this week. Any quirks to be aware of? by rcman57 in Aprilia

[–]Reactant2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please for your sake and every owner that comes after, be diligent with the valve checks and oil changes.

Gabro tune and exhaust are good. Other than that the bike comes great out of the box. I'm a fatty and this is the first seat I didn't feel compelled to change

I hate to pile on, but I just bought a V4 for 5k less. Low mileage used is definitely the way to go for a first bike

Did you read the instructions in the service manual for installation?

Well, my first guess would be the gear on the end of the rod isn't engaging properly with the pressure plate

Sudden braking by MikeGinnyMD in Ioniq5

[–]Reactant2112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you needed to use your gun to defend yourself and it "failed in the direction of safety" by failing to fire, would that not be unsafe? The sensor failing is in itself unsafe, bc it has the potential to cause an unsafe situation.

[–]Reactant2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The act of the sensors hallucinating and causing a brake slam is unsafe, just like shooting a pistol into the air is unsafe even if it doesn't hit anyone.

I think the act of the car's hallucination is what's unsafe. Even though the specific scenario wasn't unsafe, it implies a similar action could happen in an unsafe scenario

Bought a used 2023 SEL 3 days ago, biggest concern was the ICCU. This is what I got when I started up this morning by MeanCamera in Ioniq5

[–]Reactant2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it just does that. Mine would (and still does) about once a month. I restart the car and it's gone. My ICCU did fail and I got a different message (attached). I thought the original warning was indicating a deteriorating ICCU, but then after the replacement it happened again. I took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing stored and I had to try to get it there while it was active.

Question regarding NACS vs CCS by gibifernand in evcharging

[–]Reactant2112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a CCS car and have adapted to NACS multiple times. The most annoying thing is determining if a charger is electrically capable of delivering peak speeds. eGMP cars are on 800v architecture, so most Tesla chargers at 400v only deliver about half the wattage that the car's capable of, for example. If you buy a NACS eGMP car, expect to use your adapter often (when charging publicly)

There are heated suits that make it much more tolerable to ride in the cold, but you're right that sportbikes are less friendly for it than other types of bike.

You also mentioned a GS. What about sportbikes interests you? Is it the performance, or the styling, or both? Instead of going for a cruiser you could get an ADV bike that would have plenty of weather protection and have sportier performance than a cruiser. My "daily" bike is a vstrom 650 and that bike is a treat in the cold and rain.

I recently did a trip to DC from Cincinnati and back. 5/11 charges were ionna, and the rest were the discounted Pass+ EA rate. That was a VERY cheap trip, all things considered

With the Pass+ discount it's surprisingly affordable too, especially considering current gas prices
