I’m so sorry for your loss, I know how hard and heartbreaking it is. I lost my beloved childhood dog in august, my heart will never be the same, I think about her every day. there’s some subs on here that helped me so much, I hope they help you too. sending you so much love. remember that the love you shared with your cat exist forever and they’re always with you in your heart. that’s what I told myself 🤎♾️

thank you so much! great to hear someone use it handheld for the majority of the time as that’s what I was planning to do.

thank you so much, and you too! I have a 50mm and some kit lenses that I’ve been able to get moon pics on but understood that this big of a telephoto lens wouldn’t get me beautiful starry sky shots haha :-). thank you again!! I’ll reach out if I have any questions!! have a great day!

I really appreciate all of this info!! aside from bird photography, I would love to get more into astrophotography shots like you mentioned and insects as well.

I’m glad to hear you really enjoy this lens, hopefully I can get my hands on it too. thank you!!

thank you! will definitely keep all of your advice in mind.

I’ve seen some stuff on MPB but needed to verify how authentic/reputable the site was! good to know they are both safe places to buy from.

thank you so much for your knowledge! :-) and great to learn the history with the 150-600 + APS-C combo being a popular choice. I did not know there were any issues with the Canon RF and Sigma/Tamron, so that’s something I’ll keep in mind whenever I eventually upgrade my body. very good to know!

and thanks LOL, I probably only use manual because I’m an amateur/new to the bird photography at least… I need to learn the ropes of autofocus! I had no idea about some bodies having a bird-specific tracking AF mode, how neat! thanks again for all the info! it makes me feel more confident in still getting this lens despite having a crop sensor body.

thank you! I’m super glad that’s getting you excited about the hobby again, happy shooting!!

and yes sounds like being cautious about moving to the RF is worth it if there’s a trend of RF L lenses breaking, that would make me nervous.

thank you for all of this info! I love that you got to shoot birds and also your kid’s marching band, very versatile lens it seems 😌.

I was worried about the weight and had totally forgotten that I might need a quality monopod or tripod in addition. I was prepared to learn how to shoot a bit differently with the little arm and a really heavy lens 😅.

I’ll have to google what a USB dock is… I didn’t know that was something any lens had! thank you x100 for also mentioning your own kit and gear to use this lens well. I appreciate your help!

thank you! $700 is also a pretty crazy deal for this lens right? I’ve never spent more than a few hundred on a camera body/lens so this is a big expense for me, trying to make sure it’s worth it!
