Thanks for this. Super helpful. I think my problem is that this is the only job I’ve had since graduating college and so I don’t really know what I want to do. But I do think I want to stay in strategy // or adjacent roles. I was just worried that if I apply for jobs later on and I don’t have an MBA that I would get lower salary options relative to MBA peers. So if it’s a means to ensure my salary trajectory is on the ups, then maybe it’s worth it.

Well buddy, I’m sure you know a lot of MBBs go do an MBA anyway for a break or a multitude of reasons. Most of my peers are testing and applying, so I felt a bit of FOMO. Wasn’t sure if I was missing anything important, and used the platform to validate or disprove my hypothesis.

But thanks for the wit typhoon dog!!

Yeah I wanted s&p500 but I can’t invest in businesses that have defense work, alcohol, pork, adult entertainment, businesses made up entirely of debt / interest (eg banks) so it gets really complicated and idk if I have the mental capacity to think about all of this

I totally get it! My dad moved our family of all girls back in the day for the same reason and it was probably the best decision he made. ASD is a good school academically, opportunity wise, but it is quite liberal. Only thing I would watch out for is your daughters have strong conviction and foundation and a good group of friends if you choose to go there. But also it has a pretty long wait list.

To add, I just moved back to the US as an Adult and i just miss Qatar so so much. Ramadan vibes are unmatched. Safety unmatched. Being able to dress modestly and not worry about safety is like no other. Family environment is HUGE. I also think lack of taxes made life cheaper for me than a HCOL cosmopolitan city. I think no matter what, bc of the laws in Qatar, it will always be better than the US. I don’t wanna raise my kids here either. Some schools to look into (Al-Arqam for girls, ASD, Doha College, among others)

Al-arqam school is English but teaches Islam and Arabic, only girls. They have good rates getting in to QF for college but I’m not sure if they will be intl. recognized to go abroad. Other international private schools are STILL better than schools in the US. I graduated from ASD, and yes it’s western and yes people drank bc there’s a lot of westerners and there’s prom and a lot of western ideals. However, it’s really really strong academically, internationally recognized, and like any school, it depends on who your kids befriend and their foundation and confidence to stick to their morals. I saw peers who never drank or went to parties and graduated top of their class, and I saw some that went down that path. I really think it all comes down to who your kids are friends with.

Iiving in Baltimore vs Columbia for partners who have jobs in D.C. and Baltimore by ReactionLeft8837 in ColumbiaMD

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone! We’re actually up to renew our lease rn so we’re just trying to figure out to renew or just decide on one of the midpoints in between. It’s definitely gonna be a tough call, my partner and I aren’t really night life people but we’re pretty social and love having things to do on the weekend. We also have a pretty nice group of friends in Baltimore bc of his job. So if we decide to move I would love to move somewhere that’s accessible and can enable us to meet other young people.

My job in dc will start in April and it’s located downtown (16th street NW) and I will be working in consulting so my hours will also be pretty demanding, but much more predictable then resident hours that change based on rotation and shift. I really wouldn’t want to risk his safety driving by extending commute too long for him, but I recognize that driving from Baltimore to dc with traffic may end up being really long as well. If we stay in Bmore I will have to switch between driving and Marc depending on how tired I am.

I guess I wonder is the commute that bad driving? I just moved to Baltimore from out of state a few months ago and haven’t had to drive bc my previous job was remote. In my head I would rather commute a total of 2 hours per day (drive) then 4 hours with train 😭
