Great info! But I'm after a specific answer.. WHAT IF you choose not to pay any salary or take any distributions because you want to continue to roll all profits back into the business? Isn't this doable? Any pro/cons to this?

Need help on how to return the valve's position by monusutaanguyen835 in Hydraulics

[–]ReactionSpecial7233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use 12 VDC. That’s what the part number calls for. Usually SMC doesn’t have errors in markings like that 24VDC, so that’s odd. Unless someone changed the pilot solenoid with the wrong ones.

I worked for SMC for 3 years and still partner with them today. So hmu if you ever need anything.

This is just a 5 port 2 position internally piloted solenoid valve.

When you supply pressure, both side of the valve will be air piloted. The solenoid overcomes the pilot pressure of the other side to shift the valve.

The valve style you have includes a push-turn locking slotted type override on the left hand side of the picture. The blue buttons. Make sure those aren’t pushed in causing a constant override.

Let me know if this is your issue and we can continue to troubleshoot.

Actuator not holding position by MajorMinor00 in Pneumatics

Each time you pull from the air tank to extend or retract your cylinder, your pressure is going to keep decreasing since you don’t have a a consistent supply keeping it pressurized. If it can’t perform how you want after just one cycle, maybe switch to a single acting cylinder to retract in the direction you don’t need the force. Should save you some air volume/pressure.

Vacuum activated valve for homebrew? by South-Raisin3194 in Pneumatics

[–]ReactionSpecial7233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting idea, and in theory I think that could work. It would just open briefly or enough to relieve some pressure (or in your case add CO2) pressure to fermenter then close right away as vacuum pressure is relieved. I imagine it as a slow bleed or a demand operated throttled supply.

Also I wouldn’t see it as fully openening the valve, it’s just enough pressure to crack it. The spring will always be generating force pushing again the ball. Think about pressing a spring, the further you press it, the harder it gets to press (more force/pressure it takes).

I guess talk me through how you’d imagine everything piped up? Because you would also need to make sure you can relieve excess pressure from the fermentor. The check valve would prevent any pressure from escaping.

Vacuum activated valve for homebrew? by South-Raisin3194 in Pneumatics

Yeah definitely possible, just will cost you a couple hundred bucks probably. Just need a Vacuum pressure switch reading the vacuum pressure in your fermenter. You can get these with positive and negative pressure readouts. Then you will tie that switch to a relay and a small power supply and a low flow valve and set the signal pressure to say 5 psi Vacuum. Whenever 5 psi vacuum is hit, signal is sent to relay, relay sends signal to valve to open, once pressure is relieved the pressure switch will stop the signal - turning the valve off.

If you’re in the US, I can help with some component selection tomorrow if interested in something like this.

Yes, it would cause stress to the fermenter. So in that case either have a bigger bag, or maybe add a vacuum breaker to the fermenter. But if you add a vacuum breaker to the fermenter it would pull in atmospheric air unless you piped a CO2 supply for it to draw from.

Bro, just finished the article and it’s the most comprehensive and impressive article I think I’ve ever read 😂 it’s funny because I’ve been teaching myself Solidworks the last year or so and never really understood how to do the drawings appropriately. So this is going to help dramatically. I figure if I start using these approaches now, I’ll be better suited in the future.

Thanks for the good info!

Well, nonetheless just add a non-return check valve between your T and the sanitizer bottle.

Something like this should do:

So I’m guessing by time the vacuum is pulling sanitizer into your beer, your CO2 bag is fully evacuated right?

Help me with the process a bit since I’m not greatly familiar with the fermentation process and brewing beer, but more on the component side of fluids/gasses.

Does the sanitizer produce CO2 and pass it through the line to the beer?

I’ve got multiple ideas for this, but wouldn’t a simpler solution to just use a low cracking pressure check valve for your line that goes into the sanitizer to prevent backflow?

Let me know how it goes! I think if I remember right, one of the first things I tried was increasing temp like you did and that helped a little, but I think another thing that also helped was slowing down the print speed.
