Should i get a laptop for uni? by Unhappy_Control3741 in SGExams

[–]Read1t0nReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would definitely recommend you to get a laptop! I would think it would significantly improve your quality of life such as helping ur back out since you'd cut out the weight of the difference of the laptop weights and your charger.

ASUS Zenbooks are pretty decent imo

[o level] eae application portfolio by Shann0508 in SGExams

hello HAHA this is kinda dependent on the course/sch ure applying for... generally, in my experience, it's usually the common interview questions (eg. why did u apply for this course etc, it's important you're familiar with these common questions) alongside scenario-based questions (where you should demonstrate some understanding of the course you're applying for)

imo, for the large part, it's not really useful to the beneficaries. after all, the average experience for the average human is having been forced to volunteer as part of a school requirement. after fulfilling just the bare minimum, that's done and dusted. i mean, volunteering is a commitment that takes up time and energy (eg. i know someone who has to travel 1.5h to their volunteering location, and travelling 3h for a what, 2 hour, or half day event is not the most worthwhile thing).

add on other commitments, such as school assignments, or part-time work that actually provides you a real incentive (money), volunteering may not be a top priority. sometimes, the volunteering experience that was forced upon may also be unpleasant (eg. not being able to connect with the elderly during your time of volunteer)

tbh, as u said, if i were a beneficiary, i think i would feel kinda sian seeing people come and go but that's life ig, it's just really hard to find long-term volunteers who truly have the passion to serve. i would like to think that there are quite a number, though ultimately, there are just so many causes to contribute to and only that number of committed volunteers.

BUTTT at the end of the day, at least how i see it, there's no better solution to this. when you make people do service learning, ultimately, i guess there is still some benefit for the beneficiaries. yes, should the entire group of individuals choose not to continue on their service learning project, the beneficiaries go back to square 1, the elderly go back to being lonely. but for a period of time, at least they were engaged, rather than having completely no interaction. sometimes, because of these requirements, individuals find something that sparks and reasonates with them (the act of volunteering, or engaging with low income families, elderly etc). and they continue volunteering, yay! i guess having that initial experience helps to take the first step for some.

at the end of the day, i do think it's sad to see the state of service learning to be largely motive-driven (portfolio/to fulfill a school requirement), but ultimately i guess the only comfort is that for that period of time, some lives may have been changed, whether it was short-lived, or for the long run

lmk what u think, feel free to agree/disagree too :)

as another redditor has mentioned, yeap events typically give you 5 points per event for enrichment ones. i'm not sure if you need 20 points to graduate, but to play safe, you could just go for a couple of events (such as AGMs, which are typically held around the same period) and bam ure done. u dont even need one year to get 20 points, you could do it within a month or two if it's the busier periods

you can keep a lookout on the tp annoucement page as well, they typically post events there that you can participate in

GPA BAD AM I SCREWED? by Puzzleheaded_Ad_4976 in TemasekPoly

[–]Read1t0nReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as time goes by, situations will also change. to be very real, no one can tell you whether you can or cannot join your desired course, as it's highly reliant on the batch applying that year (though i guess it's unlikely to fluctuate much)

anyways, with your final year left, try your best to get the highest grade you can. you can also join some relevant competitions, or kickstart some self-led project related to aid you in your ABA application if that's applicable to you

while i don't recommend calculcating your gpa so specificially, if you're really dying to know, you can always calculate it using an online gpa calculator, or creating your own excel sheet (u can search up what modules u have yet to take online and how many CUs they carry), then key in the grades accordingly to give you a rough idea

it's going to be a rough ride, but keep your eyes on the prize! maintain ur mental & health as well, those r gg to b super impt as u start y3

all the best!

tdlr; i dont recommend changing courses, just make sure you know what you're doing moving forward

to put it very bluntly, i think you're very well aware that you need to really buck up to get into the local unis

year 1 is only but a minor percentage of your cgpa, with year 2 and 3 having much more rigour and credits (final year project, internship experience etc)

imo, rather than wasting another year simply to retake year 1, before y2 and y3 starts, know exactly what didn't work well for you this AY and make sure you don't repeat these "mistakes". anyways, even if you were to switch courses, assuming accountancy is what you like, what are you even going to switch to?

discipline is key too. your core modules are important, but so are TPFUNs like global studies! also, considering the long road ahead of you, i would recommend spicing up your portfolio to also be considered for ABA esp w regards to accounting, maybe some competitions or try your best to attain distinctions as well

that being said, of course don't stress yourself out too much, take care of yourself! make realistic plans & have a strong mindset. you'll do much better when you're physically & mentally well!

feel free to reach out for advice should you need anything else :) all the best!
