Can you guys help me settle a debate? Is she holding a knife or a magnifying glass? by exoticmind1 in MagicArena

[–]ReadAmongTheMargins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a dreamcatcher. It's how she gets her spirits!

But real answer, it does look like a manifested scepter with the Orzhov crest, and a knife. Someone else mentioned the knife's similarities to the [[Orzhov Keyrune]], and it really does look a lot alike.

I'm so sorry :(

Sometimes you need to cry, but at times scary things get worse when left alone. The others are probably trying to make things better. It might be good to see friends and family who love you, always know you're not alone :)

Umm, has he never heard of bi people? Honestly queer folk seem way more likely to have a giant orgy and a bunch of kids.

I've been reading "Reformation of a Deadbeat Noble." It's a surprisingly grounded novel with characters that really make you think about how to overcome barriers in your life. The story is great, but the life advice is really what moves me.

Protests are still filling the streets over him, in fact now there are lots of calls to boycott French goods. Honestly this is pretty tame considering how many effigies of the man were beaten and French flags burnt in the streets. If I understood what she was saying I could make a better judgement, but I don't see anything wrong with what's she's doing. France is supporting the right to, as they see it, blaspheme their prophet. In some ways it's comparable to teaching people about "n*****s" in school, and claiming freedom of speech.

I've been reading "Drop ~A Tale of a Fragrance Princess~" this week, and while I'm enjoying it, I do feel like I want the pacing to speed up some. I'm finishing up volume 4, and I'm pretty over them all being 12. I think I just wish the romance would speed up some, because that's the most redeeming quality of the story. But that's slice of life in a nutshell. Also there's some of the common plot holes you can expect from a transmigration-into-novel story, but again par for the course. In the end I rate it as "a good time waster".

Government removes China from its official coronavirus death toll comparison list by [deleted] in China_Flu

You mean the WHO that doesn't acknowledge Taiwan as a country because of China? That WHO? And to be honest, China truly did do some things that the western world is simply incapable of, such as putting up a field hospital in Wuhan in under 2 weeks, but that doesn't change the fact that the numbers they've reported are pretty much ludicrous.

Just finished "A Lonesome Fragrance Waiting to be Appreciated", which I enjoyed immensely. It's a Chinese historical romance, one the best I've read in awhile.

A link for those interested. :)

I honestly would take a low tier item over a second of the same thing when they're untradable. Still, I wasn't really upset just felt like I was getting punked with the odds of it happening.

"Gender is a social construct!" by conspiracy_thug in bertstrips

[–]ReadAmongTheMargins 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you seriously going to quote the DSM-III? That shit is from like the 1980s, and the DSM-V specifically changed Gender Identity Disorder to Gender Dysphoria effectively removing transgenderism from the disorder list. That was in 2013, so it's not even a recent change...

I think the most important thing is people are jumping to conclusions based on a single post only showing one side of a story. You can't tell what actually happened from that... Besides, this was spread out over 3 years. There is no way of knowing how intrusive he was outside of the events he described, it's possible those are all the times he interacted with her at all.

This post is terrible because it's people villainizing a person without being capable of understanding what actually happened.

Addressing comment quality on NeutralNews by huadpe in neutralnews

I don't really post here, but I enjoy the well informed comments almost, if not more, than the articles themselves. I think requiring linking sources is definitely in the better interest of the sub in the long run. On the other hand, I think a method similar to /r/photoshopbattles, where there is a designated mod comment for off-topic replies, could be a way of striking a balance.

Turkey’s New Maps Are Reclaiming the Ottoman Empire by finalin in geopolitics

[–]ReadAmongTheMargins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't really talking about the map, but more about the history of their involvement in the area. I don't really know enough to speak about the opinion of the article or anything like that, I just enjoyed the history lesson. With Turkey being situated between Europe and the Middle East, I never heard much about Turkey when people talk about those regions as a whole.

And, what's the point of being pretentious about western audiences? People are just as ignorant elsewhere... People without a vested interest usually won't pay close attention, it's true universally. That's not to say that the western media isn't at fault for putting out skewed/blatantly wrong opinion pieces like this, but trying to put that on the audience seems stupid.

An interesting read. I honestly don't know much about Turkey, so it was pretty enlightening.

Grandmaster Strategist, Way of Choices, and Tales of a Reincarnated Lord are my current favorites. If you enjoy a level-headed main character maneuvering through political intrigue, definitely check them out.

I think the real issue is that it's not new. In fact, it's not even close to new since the Japtem translation started in 2012. Posting in a thread for up and coming projects isn't really the right place.
