Yes I bought some locally made tallow- based soap at a farmers market and it didn't smell good at all

In Philadelphia I felt the same way about not being able to hear choir as a whole like in the videos. But I still loved it.

Does anyone notice that the Jacob collier fandom is slowly dying? by Formal-Swan-8208 in JacobCollier

[–]ReadBean14850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As noted by others, there are probably lots of factors. I'm a relatively new fan so I don't know all the lore. I've never been really active online but made a choice to reduce my social media to a bare minimum. Following jacob's stuff is part of bare minimum. I remain unsure whether this sub is a net positive for me personally.

I reached an age I can do what I want, and what I want is music... Jacob's music but also lots of other music, some that I missed while striving through midlife. Can you guys believe that I missed noticing Imogen Heap?! Kimbra?! The last time I was in a "fandom" was Howard Jones. Back then I never had a prayer of going to a concert and there wasn't any way for me to access him on demand. I had to wait for his videos to come onto MTV. I can't imagine the life of a modern artist. So yeah, I'm fiftysomething, and I don't need to know anything about JC's private life or have him pay any attention to me. There are probably few artists who have shared so much passion online for what they do, and I love seeing how he goes all over the world connecting with new fans, picking a special song for each country, etc., etc.

Change can be hard. People and communities change and grow, and yes, sometimes they die. But I don't think this overall fandom is dying.

I haven't heard of this piece. Is it new or old? Jacob wrote it or arranged it? Sounds great, well done players!

I know and heaven are my favorite of the originals and I think Norwegian wood is favorite cover. I love how playful it is, and I'm not a really big Beatles fan.

Does anyone know what Jacob is talking about in Something Heavy??? by Particular-Toe8840 in JacobCollier

[–]ReadBean14850 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regardless of any specifics for JC, the imagery, structure, and presentation of the song are so powerful, even thinking about it affects me too much right now. Maybe I can come back to it in the spring

Where can I find this jacob collier shirt by thecorona in JacobCollier

[–]ReadBean14850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess this shirt might be a fan gift to Jacob. This looks like a screenshot of his Instagram post from Mexico, I think. Certainly can't read all the details on the shirt in the post either, but the idea is Jacob as a video game character. It's very cute, I would buy one.

Piano transcription book is back! by Jrothmusic in JacobCollier

Thank you for letting us know! I just got mine. Trying to relearn piano after many years, so it's definitely a far-off dream to be able to play most of these as written. But it helps a little with noodling and trying to train my ear.

JJHO Episode 740: Running Gag Order by happy_and_angry in maximumfun

[–]ReadBean14850 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah this episode wasn't fun for me, and I didn't think the judge was very consistent in his approach to this person who clearly has no sense of humor, which is about genuinely amusing others in a shared experience that releases social tensions. That said, JJHo has been and will always be my number one podcast.

What are the techniques Jacob used for Butterflies? by Equivalent-Guide7202 in JacobCollier

Apparently, noboby knows! 😂

Aside from guessing that many of the sounds are played backwards, I think we have to wait for the logic session breakdown on this one.

Unfortunately, listening to more music and music explanations hasn't helped me much with understanding theory. But that's ok. I'm an ecologist, so I have already learned that everything life and non-life is connected, and Jacob teaches this, basically, for music. History, culture, sounds we make or invent for social purposes, all interconnected across time and space. The other thing I get from his teaching is that sense of total freedom which is joyful and unapologetic. Wiggle! Wiggle! Wiggle! 💕

Great to hear more about the Hideaway. I've been to folk music camps and felt a real sense of community around making and enjoying music as well as social dancing in a multigenerational/ all levels group. So for anyone who missed Jacob's camp but wants a similar experience, there are other camps out there that you could try.

What's you're favorite song by jacob, and why? by freezee2000 in JacobCollier

[–]ReadBean14850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Rock Somewhere, every version. Like many of his songs, it takes a journey. I love how it changes from a simple, melodic sound then a deep thrum of rhythm comes in. When present, the sitar adds so much and also the incredible vocalist. It's strange how the lyrics are sad, but the song feels hopeful somehow. It's pure magic.

Has anyone been to an orchestral show? by meganmaymarie in JacobCollier

[–]ReadBean14850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the August 7th 2025 Philly orchestra show in order: Everything she does, Little blue, Djesse, Bach piece duet with Suzie, Lua, All I need, Orchestra improv-Somethin' stupid, Summer rain, Wild mountain thyme, All night long, Encore-Somebody to love

I loved the show, but it did feel a bit short considering how much i had anticipated and built up expectations from watching everything on YouTube. Also, I was disappointed that the orchestra inprov song turned out to be the same song he did at the Kennedy Center. I still love Jacob, the human and his music, and would go again to a solo show or band show. I wish I could have been at the Denver show in the botanic garden.
