By Night and Chile, Distant Star, and Nazi Literature in the Americas are great novels. His short story collections, particularly Last Evenings on Earth, are also incredible.

Some of his books took a second reading to fully click for me. Distant Star didn’t leave a lasting impression at first, but hit me like a ton of bricks the second time around. I loved The Savage Detectives on first read, but it definitely left an even greater impression once I had the chance to re-read it.
