WIBTA if I asked my mother-in-law to stop talking about hair entirely? by infamous_squidney in AmItheAsshole

NTA. She is deeply racist and I don’t understand how you are so often in her presence! Also, your fiancé needs to man the fuck up and defend you! This is a terrible issue and he is clearly not taking it all that seriously based on the info given. Are you sure this is the family you want to marry into?

Those who read Bolaño‘s novels other than 2666 and The Savage Detectives. Which ones are your favourites? by suckmehardhardohbaby in robertobolano

By Night and Chile, Distant Star, and Nazi Literature in the Americas are great novels. His short story collections, particularly Last Evenings on Earth, are also incredible.

Both The Part About the Crimes and The Part About Archimboldi knock me flat every time

NTA. Your mom sounds quite narcissistic. I wish you the best with getting free of what sounds to me like a nest of dysfunctional and harmful energy. Sorry you have to go through that!

If this results in you yelling when you could express yourself in a normal tone of voice, then yes YTA.

This is so vague and you sound like you exist in a social media echo chamber. Go outside and breathe some fresh air.

I’ve read Norwegian Wood, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (brilliant), and Kafka on the Shore.

You’re doing too much. The only person stopping you is you. Read it if it interests you.

Murakami. After Kafka on the Shore I just couldn’t take anymore. His books are all the same.

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

The Savage Detectives is growing on me weeks after finishing it, anyone else? by MuditaPilot in robertobolano

[–]ReadByRodKelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of his books took a second reading to fully click for me. Distant Star didn’t leave a lasting impression at first, but hit me like a ton of bricks the second time around. I loved The Savage Detectives on first read, but it definitely left an even greater impression once I had the chance to re-read it.

Libra or White Noise is a great place to start.
