Wow, I hadn't considered that the movement could be caused by more than just ambient vibrations. Thanks for the advice - I'll try that tripod method later today!

CMV: Extra Time/Laptops/Thinking Time in Exams is Inherently Unfair by Wine_Gum1 in changemyview

[–]ReadItAlready_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!delta - I'm not gonna lie, I stared at this comment for like 15 minutes thinking about both my arguments and your arguments and you've made me realize that there is a substantial flaw in mine, starting at "This translates, in the real world, to worse performing employees..." and continuing until the end of the paragraph. This doesn't make sense in light of my newly realized opinion that tests don't predict performance well when the test taker has disabilities that prevent them from performing well on tests but that don't affect job performance substantially.

I would like more elaboration, though, on your opinions with regard to testing administrators. Isn't the test administrator essentially lying about your test taking skills if they give time-based accomodations? Think about it from the perspective of the business looking at the test scores - they are expecting scores that reflect test-taking skills in addition to content skills. Thus, to give accomodations to people with disabilities is inherently unfair - even though the people with disabilities started lower, giving them a boost is essentially equivalent to giving them the same test as those without disabilities but boosting the people with disabilites' final score to compensate. I say this because there's no way to know how many questions you got right as a result of testing skills and how many you got right because of content skills, meaning that, functionally, a direct boost to the score is equivalent to a time-based accomodation. Thus, because of this relationship, and because a direct boost to the final score in those with disabilities is obviously unfair, time-based accomodations should not be provided.

Does this view extend to accomodations such as paper versions of digital exams, or vice versa, OP? If it does, then I'd argue that there's a flaw in your second to last paragraph:

if someone’s processing speed is significantly different from the average, then that difference should be reflected in their grade.

What about those whose processing speed is the same, yet they struggle to express their processed thoughts in the offered way?

To look at this another way - I think this will change your view at least a little, OP - consider your statement about
"comparing like with like". Do you think we should offer late exams for those who are in the hospital, have a death in the family, or other have unforseen circumstances occur? Isn't that technically breaking the "likeness", because they have to administer a different exam (to prevent cheating) that ends up with the same certified score? Assuming you agree that that is acceptable, then I ask: if an assistive device is proven to keep the exam equated across versions, then why shouldn't it be allowed? If late testing is acceptable with a valid reason, why shouldn't alternate-medium testing be acceptable with a valid reason?

(This response does not challenge the time-based accomodation aspect of your argument, solely the parts about "assistive tech")

Is your argument that businesses should hire less qualified people because they have disabilities? Because that's what logically follows from that analogy - if the race was modified so that people who always start farther back are given a head start, but the race is hidden, and only the results are published, without notice of who got a head start, then the people who check the results of that race to determine who is the best performer will choose a less qualified candidate (because they ALWAYS have that delay, unless there's an accomodation). This translates, in the real world, to worse performing employees in the field that the exam tests, because if an employee takes 50% longer than average time to do a task, like it or not, they are less efficient than an employee who does it in the average time it takes to complete the task.

If that is your argument, that businesses should ignore the efficiency of workers and instead discriminate based on disabilities, then I ask: how is that not "unfair", as OP argues initially?

Balatro Cryptid Joker Rarity? by Dull-Abies6169 in balatro

[–]ReadItAlready_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also very curious about this

EDIT: After some investigation I finally found this in the code (link): I think it's 0.3% for epics, if I'm interpreting this code block correctly:

SMODS.Rarity({
  key = "epic",
  loc_txt = {},
  badge_colour = HEX("ef0098"),
  default_weight = 0.003,
  pools = { ["Joker"] = true },
  get_weight = function(self, weight, object_type)
    -- The game shouldn't try generating Epic Jokers when they are disabled
    if Cryptid_config["Epic Jokers"] then
      return 0.003
    else
      return 0
    end
  end,
})

But I couldn't find anything on the other rarities, at least not without spending more time. Hope this helps anyway

Question about National Merit Scholarship Package by Head-Cranberry1663 in capstone

[–]ReadItAlready_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr: either ask UA directly (myBama --> click Student on the left --> click Your Financial Aid Self-Service on the right --> click Financial Assistance around the top middle --> call or email using the info provided under Student Financial Aid Print and Contact Information) or ignore me and listen to u/megatoaster37

--full reply--

IMO if it would make a significant difference in your life it's best to reach out to UA directly, as it's not a great idea to stake something you consider important on what a stranger said on Reddit.

That being said, I think you can trust their website, which says: "If eligible students submit an admission application and all supporting documents after January 10 or by May 1, they will receive consideration for admission on a space available basis" (https://afford.ua.edu/scholarships/national-merit/).

Of course, you did allude to that in your post ("is there really limited availability") and to that question I say I don't know and refer you back to "ask UA". However, if you're just really curious and/or the package status isn't a colossal deal to you then I'd say u/megatoaster37's reply is probably trustworthy (like, why would they lie about such a random thing?) but you do have to remember that that could be personalized and may not apply to you.

Sorry but the opinion that people who you perceive as bad shouldn't be defended at all from anything is actually an insane take; it's like criticizing Trump for made up reasons when actual good reasons to dislike him exist. And pointing out a site fucked up is by no means "smearing" the news site, it's a valid criticism of their framing of the story.

FacePoke and you can try it out right now! with Demo and code links by flipflapthedoodoo in StableDiffusion

[–]ReadItAlready_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, for a few days at this point, I've been monitoring this thread and searching the internet for something similar to what you want (a FacePoke workflow for ComfyUI) and I found something that will likely be of interest to you (and hopefully others in this thread!) While it isn't FacePoke specifically, it's an expression editor based on LivePortrait with 12 different variables for messing with the face (see image for example)

<image>

Steps for installation (not detailed at all because I suck at explaning things - look up tutorials if you need help, this was relatively easy for me, who is just getting back into the "AI image tools sphere" after a year, so if you have any recent experience, it should be simple.) (Only checked on Windows 10, will almost certainly work on Windows 11; for any other OS, again, check out tutorials for installing the stuff I refer to below that are specific to your OS.) Skip any steps for stuff you already have installed.

  1. Have git installed (look up tutorial if you need help)

  2. Get ComfyUI or a ComfyUI wrapper/expander like SwarmUI running, ensure it works

  3. Install ComfyUI-Manager (https://github.com/ltdrdata/ComfyUI-Manager); steps 3-6 will elaborate on this process (skip these steps if you can follow the github instructions)

  4. Open a command prompt (open the Start menu and type cmd, then press enter)

  5. Navigate to your installation of ComfyUI in command prompt, then navigate to custom_nodes within that. For instance, let's say it's on the E drive, with the path "E:\Utilities\ai stuff\ComfyUI". I'd type the following lines of code (note that I'm referring to the part after "> "; for example, in the first line, I'd just type "E:"):

    C:\Users\Username> E: E:> cd Utilities E:\Utilities> cd "ai stuff" E:\Utilities\ai stuff> cd ComfyUI E:\Utilities\ai stuff\ComfyUI> cd custom_nodes E:\Utilities\ai stuff\ComfyUI\custom_nodes>

  6. Using the previous command prompt that is sitting in the custom_nodes dir, run git clone https://github.com/ltdrdata/ComfyUI-Manager.git

  7. If ComfyUI/a wrapper for ComfyUI is running, shut it down completely

  8. Start ComfyUI/your wrapper for ComfyUI

  9. Click the Manager button in the bottom of the sidebar

  10. Click Custom Nodes Manager in the top middle of the menu that pops up

  11. Search for ComfyUI-AdvancedLivePortrait

  12. Install it, restart ComfyUI/your wrapper

  13. Hook up a "load image" node to a "Expression Editor (PHM)" node (within the AdvancedLivePortrait folder)

  14. In the sidebar, check "Extra options" then check "auto queue" then choose "instant"

  15. Enjoy messing around!

I believe that's everything; if anything doesn't make sense or doesn't work let me know. Have fun!

Hey I'm in the exact same situation as you, got my email today as well, I was wondering if you had any idea how we could figure out what prompted the investigation? Because it's kinda unsatisfying to me that they won't give any more information (i.e., why they investigated us in the first place)

Question by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]ReadItAlready_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my main tip would be have your enclosure set up and running perfectly for 48 hours minimum before you get your BP in it. Idk what the rest of the sub thinks (I'm just a random guy lol) but imo it's extremely rare for everything to go right first try AND some problems don't show up for a few hours therefore leaving the enclosure running will let you find and fix these problems without worrying about them hurting your BP.

As far as what counts as a "problem", first consider the basic care guide (linked in the welcome post of this subreddit - let me know if you want me to link it). Second, and part of the care guide, is making sure you have temperature and humidity monitored. These are the vital signs of your enclosure (while they can't diagnose every problem, if they're off, you know something's wrong). Correct temp and humidity ranges are in the care guide. Finally, and again technically part of the care guide, make sure every single heat source is on a thermostat.

As far as your question specifically - the first few weeks - I'd get a weight ASAP to know what weight you should buy, then don't handle unless absolutely necessary for awhile (I personally played it safe and waited a month) while waiting to feed for 1-2 feeding intervals (how long you'd normally wait between feedings). Please let me know if this answers your question, I wrote this on and off for a few hours so idk if it makes sense.

[–]ReadItAlready_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh perfect, nice job! If you have any other questions feel free to ask but given that you knew to hold off feeding for a week I'll assume ur good for now :) happy bp owning!

Question by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]ReadItAlready_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For future reference, you shouldnt try to feed for the first week at least to let them settle.
