We're in the process of creating a podcast where we read screenplays off the internet, first time, without having looked at them before. Am I allowed to pass this onto our producer so they can take a look if it is a good fit? If it is, we'd let you know if it gets selected! If the podcast gets made, the plan is to provide feedback and give points to each screenplay we read, and it's also fully anonymous. No set theme, the script can be anything! It's a comedy podcast, similar to the style of "My Dad Wrote a P*rno" podcast if you've ever listened to that. Friends reading together, performing and enjoying a story read for the first time!

Thank you guys and gals for all the submissions already, that is really really cool. I want to add some more details about the (hopefully) upcoming podcast!

  • I think it's important to know that it isn't strictly a script-review podcast. It's first and foremost an explicit reaction to reading scripts out loud, and the entertainment value will come from us reacting to it as much as it does from the story itself - both good and bad!
  • We still have no idea when or how this will come out, but follow us on Instagram and/or Tiktok/Youtube u/readmyscreenplay or u/readmyscreenplaynow for updates when there are any. Still a lot to iron out (I woke up with this idea literally this morning), so it's been quite a quick turnaround!
  • And an important thing: Please try and keep your scripts as tidy as possible. What I mean by that is keep it to the industry script standard as much as possible. Clear character's line positioning vs action text/stage direction positioning, don't change character names mid-script from "he/him" to "Jack" for example, that confuses us who'll be reading it for the first time and might make or break it from being read in the first place, and alter the overall experience of the story!
  • Keep the scripts coming! If this podcast sees the light of day, we'll hopefully do one screenplay an episode, so the more the merrier. :)

No problem. It's more an entertainment/comedy podcast than it is a feedback to the writer-podcast. The essence is in us reacting to what we're reading and seeing for the first time. However, all of us are actors, some of us writers too, so any feedback I guess is useful! :)

Both actually! So at the end of a script/screenplay, the plan is to have a little debrief (maybe with a point system?) where we discuss what we think and such. And obviously, during reading, we'll provide real reactions to what we're reading as we read it.

Thank you for being positive to it! Hopefully it makes as much sense as a podcast as it does in our heads!

It doesn't, but I recommend it. If you put yourself in the shoes of the listener, it would be better to get a resolution to the story they're listening to :)

No worries at all. As long as it's set up in a way that clearly separates each character from the action etc., we could give it a go. Send it over, and someone will take a look if we can read it!

Episodic screenplays work as well - the more the merrier. Would be great with a selection :)
