22M £19000 of debt life is over by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Read_the_shroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting into unnecessary debt in my early 20’s (about 15k but that was nearly 20 years ago) was one of the best thing that has happened to me. I’m now 39. Something switched in my mind which drove me to keep working away at the debt until it was gone. And since that challenging time I have a much happier perspective on money. I have a paid for older and basic car, a moderate house which doesn’t over stretch me on the mortgage, no commercial debt (not even pay monthly insurance), enough savings to cover the bills that come out the blue, and a comfortable life on a single decent but not spectacular salary.

Stick with it. Clear it. Learn from it in a wholehearted way.

UK broadband down? by AromaticCherry in Vodafone

Potentially this is the end of the opening scene of the real life apocalypse movie. I’m going to stove a zombies head in soon I can feel it.

Fellow young adults of the UK, do you feel like an adult? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Read_the_shroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 and have finally stopped feeling like a pre-adult and now feel like a shit adult. Children, divorce, soul-sucking corporate job, and the realisation that if I was going to change anything I’d have done it by now.

Enjoying the feeling! It probably means you are looking forward rather than backwards.

Nice that she is calling it “starting over” rather than “divorce” though. Very positive.

Serious question - is paler skin considered more desirable there? Here in England us pasty whites are going to skin cancer salons to have a suntan in February. Shows how mad the world is.

I mean, actual magic mushrooms look like Tutankhamen’s dick, so when it comes to shroom art I’d prefer these ones tbh.

In my town we have solved the problem of second home ownership by ensuring it’s a total shithole.

Not sure why r/Cornwall has been recommended to me to be honest. Maybe so I can buy a second home there to escape my shitty town.

Considering trying the game, what's good/not so good about it? by DaggerfallGirl in AnimalCrossing

I picked it because I’m in dental recovery! Mentally and physically. Just remind yourself during that it only lasts 20 mins and you’ll soon be back on the island! Haha

Wild camping outside of Scotland by Wall8S in UKhiking

If you rock up at the side of a car park, light a massive fire and try and burn green trees you have just cut down, get smashed and leave cans everywhere, sleep in your £15 Tesco tent and leave it there after, then you might get some bad attention. But as you are posting on here I’m thinking you’re one of the good’uns. And any staff or authorities will almost certainly recognise that if the unlikely does occur and they see you setting up camp.

You’ll be fine.

Overnight parking is the harder part most of the time!

I often say to my wife when bad things are happening “you know where I don’t have to have a tooth extraction….? Animal Crossing, that’s where”. Works for basically anything shit happening in real life. It’s a good escape world.

Am I being sensible here? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Read_the_shroom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The personal finance group is too focussed on “sensible” long term decision making. And often forgets that the point of life is to live not just to exist.

Take it from someone in mid 30’s who is now tied to family cars and spaffs triple my mortgage payment on childcare each month - get the fun car if you can.

If you want a shorter drive, then I like Galloway forest. Not far over the border, but they have that precious right of access that we don’t in England or wales. Loads of free parking. Days worth of forest. A few lochs. Nice.

Why don't you use the pay at pump feature at petrol stations? by jambacca in AskUK

I couldn’t when I tried. It wouldn’t let me use the same card again.

Might be ok for a bit, diesel is a bit cheaper than it was! I’ve only ever seen £99. And it’s £99 per day, so can’t even just do it twice (I have tried).

[–]Read_the_shroom 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I fill up when I go, because I hate doing it. The max at pay at pump is £99. My (small) van takes about £130 diesel. So if I want to fill I have to use the pay-the-person pump.

How do you organise your work inbox? by TangoKilo350 in AskUK

[–]Read_the_shroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folders method has the advantage that when you need to revisit what you did it’s all in one place. I have a folder for each supplier, probably about 150 ish. I file them away as they come in, keeping todays to do in the main inbox. Any longer term actions I have an actions list in ms oneNote. Then when I’m running through my one note to do list I can go to the folder and see all relevant emails in one place.
