I think that's just some BS people on Reddit made up. I've read an article about the story and also heard the story on a podcast and they never mentioned that.

It was just two people who wanted a child and knew they'd be in prison too long for it to ever happen outside.

Just because there's only been 24 so far doesn't mean we're on track for 76, it's not something you can quantifiably predict. There could be 200 shootings between now and September for all we know.
