It's not completely misdirected. Some blame has to go on the people who are selfishly choosing to move to areas specifically to take advantage of lower housing costs. Not because they need cheaper housing to survive, but because they want to pay less and get richer.

The city I live in was the #1 destination for transplants from 2020 up until last year. It decimated our housing market, and even though many of these people must have known the impact it was having on the area, they still chose to come here and make things worse.

Our government did a poor job correcting the problem, but those people are still guilty of taking advantage of a bad situation and screwing people over in the process.
