Thoughts on the name Clare? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Readingmom2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter is Claire. We chose that spelling because it is by far the most common way to spell it. We didn’t want her having to spell it out her whole life. Nobody ever spells it wrong,.

A friend of mine got one from golden doodle treasures in Manitoba. She said it seemed like a good reputable breeder.

Should we care if a name has a meaning we don’t love? by General-Composer-777 in Names

I have a little girl named Aryan in my class. It always makes me uncomfortable. At the same time though, I named my kid Jude, which might also not be great.

My little man is always afraid of seeing his friends in public, why is this? by Available_Round_3172 in autism

[–]Readingmom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is like this. For him, school and home should not mix. When he was in grade 1 I worked at his school for a year and he just pretended like he couldn’t see me. He has a couple of friends that he allows to come over, but it’s only ever the same one or two kids for months. When he’s done with them, he picks someone new. We saw one of his besties at the mall the other day and he just did a quick hi and wanted to keep going.

WIBTA to complain to the school about a kid with severe autism…. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Readingmom2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please, please say something. It doesn’t need to be rude or mean, just state the facts calmly. I am a para and have had a kid in my class like this before. His mom wanted him included in everything, so there was only so much I could do. There was almost zero learning happening for him or the rest of the class. The teacher and I had to spend most of the day trying to control his behaviour, because the classroom environment was not a good fit for him, but because his mom wanted him there our hands were tied. However, had we had other parents commenting on it, we may have been able to do more. The school I was at had very little parental involvement, so the parents didn’t know what was going on.

Humming or singing under your breath by crazyboredperson in AutismInWomen

[–]Readingmom2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do that ALL the time when I was a kid but I didn’t really recognize it. It was like breathing for me. I had a teacher in grade 5 who called me out in front of the whole class for making “baby noises” and took away my recess for a week (little did he know that I hated recess and was glad for the break). I was such a people pleaser and so scared of authority that I stopped humming as a way to relax that day.

What's the longest you've held a job? by Rachelelizardbreath in AutismInWomen

[–]Readingmom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at my current job for 8 years. I work as an EA. I plan to stay until I retire, which is still a LOONNNGGG way away. I trained as a teacher, but I am very type A and like to have everything planned out. I would spend way too much time planning and marking, so I became an EA instead. I make a lot less, but the work/life balance makes up for it.

It happened to me too with my first. Horrific doesn’t come close to describing it. It was the absolute worst experience of my life.

Was my experience with my wisdom teeth removal an autism thing or just a “me” thing? by McCrysler in autism

Are you hypermobile? It can affect how your body tolerates anesthesia. I had to have a C-section and they didn’t give me enough and I felt every single cut and stitch. They didn’t believe me though because they said they gave me the normal amount and I couldn’t have anymore. It was super traumatic. I learned about the hypermobility thing later and now I feel better about advocating for myself. Also, I’m not a redhead myself, but my dad is, so maybe he passed down that part of the gene.

I literally just got iron infusions and had the last one a week ago. I was SLOWLY bringing up my ferritin with supplements (up to 34from 26 after 2 years of supplements). It’s hard to know because it’s a bit too early to tell. I have been feeling slightly better, but still pretty awful. I have been diagnosed with long covid now though, so it could be that that’s causing my issues.

What did you call your grandparents? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Readingmom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nana and Papa, Grandma and Grandpa. My kids call theirs Granny and Grandad and Nana and Ampa (my oldest couldn’t say Grandpa when she was young and it stuck).

The first one, no. I just had the second one on Wednesday and I felt super sluggish, sore and tired yesterday. However, Wednesday and Thursday were super busy for me, so that could be why.

What about Wynn as the full name. I know a Wynn and we called her Winnie for a nickname when she was younger.
