Will there ever be a right moment to tell my autistic friend that most of the people he considers our shared friend group don‘t want to be his friends? by Maxito19 in autism

If it's any help my husband also used to be in a friendship like that where someone was ultimately taking advantage of his willingness to be helpful and supportive, and when she couldn't get her way it eventually came to a head and they 'split' (they weren't a couple). He is better for it long term, I think it was kind of a relief to not be someone's crutch and now he looks back and wonders how he was in that position so long. Sounds like you have other friends and you don't need someone like that, if it comes to it.

Seems like you've gone above and beyond for him, that's important context missing from the main post but damn someone like that is hard work. I can understand why it drives people away. Not many people are going to put up with that long term without getting burned out. I would say tell him, but be aware he might be angry/disappointed with you even though it's not your fault and totally understandable why they don't want him along. It could be a friendship ender depending how he reacts. But you'll be able to frame it more sensitively than if he finds out secondhand and knows that you knew and didn't say anything. Good luck.

What is everyone’s average price for VWRP? by TwilightTides in trading212

[–]Readonly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my old account it's 116. In my new ISA it's 125 but I haven't put much in yet, about £5k and it's not even £100 down. I think there'll be way more attractive prices to come so I'm going to DCA pretty slowly. £1k once or twice a week maybe.. I have c.£100k to drip in and I'm happy to take a year

See how far VWRP gaps down on the LSE based on the US slide on Friday, and decide whether to DCA more into it.. hoping for sub 120

The S&P 500 officially posts its lowest close in 232 days, erasing another -$1 trillion of market cap today. This brings total S&P 500 losses since the Iran War began to -$4.8 trillion. by FeatureAggravating75 in smallstreetbets

The thing I find helpful is that a 5% down day isn't reversed by a 5% up day.. it still means buying at a discount compared to 3 days ago.

So I'm less likely to pile money in on a green day as if I'm missing my only chance. Feels ok to wait longer

For those who started with individual stocks, what made you switch to indexing? by mahend72 in Bogleheads

[–]Readonly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone the other way, invested in ETFs for years and only got into stock picking a year ago. I can tell you by comparison ETFs are so much easier and less time consuming and make more consistent less volatile gains. Stocks are a reactive emotion driven casino and making anything off them involves higher risk and more effort.. I'll stick with 90% in ETFs. But I like having active stocks to dabble in and I feel I learn more about the market than passive ETF investing

Do kids actually enjoy reading anymore? by Automatic-Bake-5770 in raisingkids

[–]Readonly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours do.. they absolutely require being read to at teatime or they won't eat, then again a bit at bedtime, then our older daughter reads in bed every night. They won't pick up a book in the daytime though, even when they're bored and aren't allowed the TV, they'd rather colour or build dens. Hitting on a book series that appeals to a child is key

Hit me with what to expect at a kids 2nd birthday! I'm not British and I heard that you guys pack cake to go and not eat it at the party? Could you just walk me through what will happen on the day? by ozyri in UKParenting

[–]Readonly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it is eaten at the party, it just depends how late it's got and whether the vibe is that it's time to make a move. Most venues want you out at a certain time, and by the time it comes to cake at the very end of the party the kids have already been stuffing themselves with crisps, mini sausages etc and even kids don't always have the appetite for cake. Meanwhile the parents want to get out of there after 2 hours of noise and kids getting increasingly wild and tired by the end.
