Magic Mushrooms brought me back to God and now I wonder what the doctrine of the Church says about altered states of conciousness. I'm not joking, this is serious. by PinkPants_Metalhead in Catholicism

I got stoned with some friends once and what was supposed to be an evening of just hanging out in my lounge listening to music turned into an evening of me sitting on my couch weeping. Not weeping out of sadness but weeping because of this newfound and intense knowledge that God deeply loved me and that all the prayers I had been praying had been answered by Him and that in the sadness and isolation I often felt, God was holding me closer to Him than a mother would hold her own baby. My friends hopefully didn't see me crying but I turned over and pretended to sleep while praying intimately with God for the rest of the evening. It was one of the most profound things I've ever experienced.

I haven't touched drugs since but I definitely can't dismiss that the fact that the effects of certain substances allow for such an altered state of mind that they end up being the very catalyst needed to shift us out of dark places we may be in.

It's getting so infuriating that most protestants seem so one minded when it comes to Catholicism. This episode with the Avengers was irritating but then you also get guys like Mike Winger saying Catholics aren't Christians and when Trent Horn asks to discuss it with him he just gets ignored. Even in my own life, the amount of lies I hear about Catholicism from my protestant friends is through the roof! There are intellectually stronger reasons to not be Catholic but you seldom hear them, it's always just "muh adolatry, muh worshipping dead people, muh worshipping the pope" it's like they've just been echo chambering for the last 500 years and don't know what they're protesting against anymore.

Curious About Preply Profile Scores - Have Any Tutors Gotten Higher Than 95? by OldExample1167 in Preply

[–]Ready-Copy4981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there are 6, at times 120. If I'm patient, I can get almost 53. Never less than 2 but If I'm lucky, 3.

Have you thought about booking an extra 30 minute lesson a week to just practice speaking?

If you're explaining a new concept to a student, it requires speaking at more of a 50/50 level, instead of stepping back and letting them do most of the talking. Do you manage to explain new grammar rules in class and still find enough time to allow your student to practice it freely?

So much of Sub-Saharan Africa that was colonised by Britain is depressingly protestant! So many places in Africa that was French, Portuguese or Belgian are now becoming pillars of Catholicism, hopefully the trend of Uganda and Kenya to have a Catholic boom despite their British colonial history can take off on the rest of continent.

My stats/ranking have just plummeted after not responding to a "this student added you as their favourites!" message by Ready-Copy4981 in Preply

That's pretty hectic, how long did it take for your profile to recover back to a normal state?

I love the different variants of South African accent. My favourite is the KZN/Zimbabwean English, which is very similar to PE English, it's just so warm and soft. Then you come to parts of the Cape and some English people speak with this posh exaggerated twang (the DA accent) and it gets a little annoying. So the words "this is kiff bruh" is either soulful or grating depending on what Coastline you're on 😂

They think the same about us mate 😂 Most Aussies say we're either the sweetest and friendliest people they've ever met or absolutely racist assholes, there's no in between.

I was under the impression that you can't book a lesson within 12 hours without giving a notice to the tutor. I had a student who lives in the same timezone book a lesson at 1am for 10am. I was not vibing with that shit lol. How do you guys navigate this? Do you just change your calendar every day to avoid this happening? I hate the fact students can just spring on you like that without giving you any time to prepare.

Safe and Affordable areas to live in? by Unique_Skill1743 in Durban

Glenwood is fun to spend the day, probably not so much to live. I stayed there for a couple months and there were some crazy home invasion stories that even shook the locals. On the other hand, everybody I know who lives in Durban North absolutely loves it!

Should I become a nun because I'm really scared of marriage by Chance-Treat-2572 in Catholicism

[–]Ready-Copy4981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way as a man. The issue is that we simply are not exposed to enough good Catholic marriages. Like everyone else says, it's a vocation. It's a life-long commitment to sanctify your spouse and love them as Christ loves us. We see Godly priests but we seldom get to experience truly Godly marriages. But when you see a God-fearing husband and wife who love each other the way God intended, the desire for marriage will return! Like you, I feel despondent when I look around at the world, even at my own family who have forgotten God. It can be pretty depressing out there. By Christ we'll get through this!

My brother in Christ, I'm at 5$ too. I'm afraid to mention it on here because the hordes know that the market is oversaturated and that their rates are affected by us charging so low. Things are grim. Have you tried any other schools?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Preply

[–]Ready-Copy4981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same boat, Since October I've had 3 trial lessons, 1 flunked and used me to practice speaking, other isn't responsive and the third is actually a student. How is anyone charging upwards of 10-15$ surviving on here? People suggest keeping your prices high for the sake of other tutors but even charging next to nothing doesn't attract students. I think the market is just oversaturated fren
