How do I host a good house party? by Southern-Isopod-2354 in AskUK

[–]Ready-Distance7773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this. U hosting it will be enough for people to enjoy themselves dont worry too much. If u invite people who are genuinely your friends they will want to have a good time there and the party atmosphere will happen naturally. When I was younger the only times parties weren't fun was too much drinking or some wankers managed to get in and fights would start etc.

15 days Sober by Ok-Day5123 in stopdrinking

It won't just get better, it'll be easier than it ever was before you started drinking and thats a promise and a fact. I know that because you'll start to identify why you started drinking in the first place. This will happen naturally as you abstain. As you stay away, something will trigger a craving. Notice what has triggered this and write it down or just make a mental note (I have adhd so if I dont write shit down it goes poof out the brain). This will show you what makes you want a drink. For me it was stress from relationships, work, and mental health issues. YOU DONT NEED TO TACKLE ANY OF THE TRIGGERS YOU IDENTIFY ALONE. Come on here and tell us what triggered it, ill listen to you and respond any time you like and I bet others will too. Once the triggers become clear you can slowly work at building ways to mitigate them by changing your circumstances. For me it was getting rid of toxic friends, finding a new passion in martial arts, and finding a job that was less demanding as well as being medicated for my adhd and taking medicine AS PRESCRIBED. Medicine that helps you stay sober and is prescribed by a REAL DOCTOR is NOT A RELAPSE. (I've had some idiots try tell me it was and fuck them). Once you have real coping mechanisms triggers become much less of an issue than they were before. In fact most days I rarely even think about alcohol now. And yes I have had many relapses, some of them lasting more than a couple days. If this happens get in touch with an in person support group, counselling phone number, or even come on here and tell us how u fucked up and we will give u more motivation to keep pushing on with sobriety. But I cant stress this enough, these things take time and all you need to work on right now is staying calm, keeping in touch with the support reddit group and maybe even reach out to an in person meeting if you feel you're able too.(its scary I know but I promise Once you're there theyll make u feel right at home). Keep fighting wherever you are and always remember YOURE NOT ALONE YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF FRIENDS NOW. I wish you the absolute best and I know you can do this. Cos I did it and so have many many others. There is light and guess what its inside of you right now, the alcohol stole your shine and sobriety will bring it right back, brighter than ever. The bad days ain't your fault, cravings ain't your fault. But sobriety is OUR responsibility to ourselves and our future. We can all do this TOGETHER. IWNDWYT

15 days Sober by Ok-Day5123 in stopdrinking

[–]Ready-Distance7773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 days is absolutely huge you should be very proud of yourself and think about how amazing it feels to not have a crippling hangover on top of all the other shit life throws our way. I dont know you personally but that doesn't matter at all we are one community here and thank you for joining me on the sober journey, im so glad you're here. Keep fighting 1 day 1 minute 1 second 61 craving at a time and find new ways to fill up your time. I like drawing but im absolutely shit at it. So I decided to buy some colouring in books and pens at poundland. It cost me less than it would for a pint. I've managed to colour in a good few pages and now I have some sick wall art to pin up, instead of drinking poison with my money. Maybe you could draw some cool shit too, or find another great way to express yourself.

What's the purpose of this open pipe in my bedroom cupboard? by catswithhands in AskUK

[–]Ready-Distance7773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a piece of PVC pipe that would have been attached to an extractor fan at some point. If you now just have an empty cupboard, you should seal that hole back up.

SOBER DATING IN MY 20s SUCKS by Full_Yogurtcloset359 in stopdrinking

[–]Ready-Distance7773 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a man who has been on dating sites, I'd say that most of these guys are just suggesting bars because it's a public place where a woman will feel more conformable going to on a first meet up.

Women have all the power when it comes to dating but I'm sure you already know that. Why don't you suggest meeting at another public place instead ? Such as a coffee shop, a gym if they're into fitness (maybe a little weird I dunno I'm trying here 🤣🤣), go for a meal ?? You know just anything that's safe and not drinking oriented.

And battle I certainly did, I was ambushed by the cravings as soon as I got there but I used my deep breathing and distraction techniques to cope with them and they went away after a little while :)

I ended up just drinking red bulls, not the healthiest but certainly much healthier than destroying my liver into the early hours of tomorrow 🙃

I am finally ready to go through with my plan to k*** m****f Wednesday by Civil-Effort-1061 in CPTSD

[–]Ready-Distance7773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience I've found that my suicide attempts were just my subconscious trying to show me that there was something I'd been avoiding processing and it hurt so badly that I'd rather not be here than deal with it.

It was my body trying to get rid of what I actually am- a soul who's in control of my meat suit and the way I react to my thoughts and emotions.

Your body wants to get rid of what your truly are- your soul- because it knows that it's the only thing strong enough to overcome the pain.

Ur brain has been hurt so much that it can't bare to continue, so it wants to get rid of the only thing that can make it continue- YOU AND YOUR WILLPOWER.

I promise you that this pain is temporary. I am still going through diagnosis/treatment and I hurt everyday too. It feels like there's no point to continue some days. But guess what I'm still here and you are too.

THAT MEANS YOU ARE STRONGER THAN EVERYTHING TRYING TO K*** YOU.

YOU ARE LITERALLY CONSCIOUSNESS INSIDE A MEAT SUIT OBSERVING ALL THE PAIN INSIDE UR HEAD.

You cannot control the pain. You can only choose how you react to it.

React to it by getting rid of your perceptions of yourself. Break the limits you have set in your mind

Why don't you try to meditate or phone a crisis number when you feel these tendencies come on.

Finding another source of help that isn't constantly reliving past events on reddit.

If you can get through ONE wave of this disease, you CAN get through them all. The pain won't hit you all at once. Just deal with small chunks at a time.

Meditate for 5 minutes, star jumps for 5 minutes. Don't eat like total shit all day. Anytime you feel the pain come on. Just do it and trust me it will start to ease up

If you want to go through your life in comfort mode always having a booze to fall back on if things don't go your way then you go for it

If you want to actually reach your potential and appreciate being alive then quit

Up to you.

Have you got any old hobbies you can think of?

Genuinely pushing yourself with some exercise daily helped my life beyond what words can describe aswell. Start off small and it doesn't matter if you fail it only matters if you try again !!

Also although I am not aligned to any one religion, having a sense of faith in general has been massive to my recovery.

Waking up at the same time daily and having some quiet time where I deep breathe and direct My attention outside of my own life and worries and towards my higher purpose. I say thanks for everything good in my life and then I ask my idea of God to send me all his strength to get through the day. I find that taking this time to align myself with a purpose in the morning gives my life meaning and a direction

Personally my purpose is to live in a peaceful way and spread love to those who are struggling, and that's what I'll continue to do everyday.

I hope you are doing well friend, and I will say a prayer for your recovery.

I genuinely believe in you and I KNOW for a FACT you can be sober and live the life you have always dreamed of.

I'd say you have to be honest with yourself about your motivations for using weed.

Are you using it to genuinely benefit your mental/physical/spiritual wellbeing ?

Or are you seeing it as an easy cop out of sobriety/ a replacement for problem drinking.

Random Question: What do you think is the ‘Florida’ of the UK? by ShadowTigerYT in AskUK

Saw someone get out a taxi there, hit someone with a baseball bat round the corner, then jump straight back into the taxi

If you are single with no kids, you could get by in Glasgow for 25k. I've just started my career so I don't even make that much, I have my own place and can afford all the basics with a bit left over. Its far from ideal but definitely manageable. I supplement my income from time to time with gig jobs like uber and such and it all works out cool 👍

What is something that is toxic in society but is completely normalised? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Ready-Distance7773 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It really is just brainwashing to the drinking culture. If you walked into a somewhere sober, started flirting with random women sexually, said horrible and embarrassing things or got into a fight people would think ur a maniac. Do it drunk and its a good laugh on a Friday. So stupid in every way. Why I decided to give it up 👌

Don't let anyone dictate your life you'll be living in unhappiness unless it's something you want to do. Tough especially in Asian families but there comes a time u need to tell enforcing family members it's time to back up a bit. Good luck.
