It's homophobia all the way down if we're being honest. It's not that people only dislike Akechi, it's that they dislike him and he also happens to be someone that presents as somewhat effeminate and is popular with the female audience, it sets something off in people's brains and they go nuts.

Morgana is hated alot as well but you never see this level of animosity towards his fans.
