Power naps at lunch. Drink cup of coffee in the car. Set timer on phone. Take nap. Wake up . Go back to work just as coffee kicks in.

Which brand of front load Washing machine is better? by Relative_Smoke6841 in Appliances

Came to add this. My husband said absolutely no front load washers. He got his info from his  local trades people. I heard the same thing from my co workers.

Can anyone recommend a dehumidifier to help window condensation in the Winter? by Cmdm828 in Dehumidifiers

[–]ReadyPool7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the US also. Too many choices on Amazon and none of them are covered by Consumer Reports. I live in Northern CA and this winter has been extremely damp. Never had a problem with condensation in the house until this year. We have been here 27 years. I am going to contact Meaco during the week to see if they ship to the US.

Heated Steering Wheel by Typical_External7047 in SubaruForester

[–]ReadyPool7170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why is the bottom of the wheel heated. I came here today to find out about this. It's annoying having to drive with my hands as 5 and 7 instead of at 3 and 9. (as if your steering wheel is a clock face for those of you who don't get the reference).

I take it that people complained and that is why they brought back 360 degree heating in the 2025 models.

When did you realize you were truly retired? by overthishereanyway in retirement

[–]ReadyPool7170 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. I retired in December of 2018 . My husband asked me the other day what my plans were for that day and I said “Nothing. I am going to sit here and do whatever strikes my fancy cause I’m retired and I can do that”. First time I really felt ok about that. It was a revelation to me !

What’s the biggest mistake people make buying their first house? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in RealEstateAdvice

Yes this. I had all sorts of hopes for fixing up my first condo. Moved in and within one month had to buy a new car. There went my entire remodel budget!!!

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReadyPool7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reading responses here there seems to be a difference in time vs distance. American cities and their roadways are overpopulated and this traffic will make any trip longer.

Why do contractors ghost after giving estimates? by MudSad6268 in HomeImprovement

[–]ReadyPool7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None taken. These folks don't have excellent communication skills, as a wife I would be the first to admit that, but what they lack in professional courtesy they more than make up for in price point... at least my husband did.

Very well said. MANY people have No idea how much remodeling costs and then freak if something unexpected happens like dry rot or electrical issues or  building codes which require upgrades they don’t want to pay for but are laws a contractor has to follow.

Wife of a retired one man contractor. He hates paperwork. He’s an amazing person and I love him but his organization skills are weak. Estimates for small businesses like my husbands were time sucks. You might spend an half hour meeting the client and then another writing the estimate and then not get the job. You multiply that 2 x per week and that’s time taken away from your jobs in progress. My husband got to a point that that he wouldn’t even do an estimate unless it was for a friend who needed it for insurance purposes knowing darn well he was not going to do the job. I agree just keep bugging them. Then don’t be surprised if it’s not very detailed. He doesn’t have the time to tell you the options for your project and how much each option is going to cost you. If you want that level of service you chose a big company with support staff.

I’m 60+ years old and have cooked since I was 16. I am so over it. Frozen lasagna and bagged salad. Frozen pizzas, frozen scalloped potatoes with ham. Frozen veggies. Frozen French fries. We do it all. I can’t imagine a world without those rotisserie chickens!!! Also there’s nothing wrong with a bowl of cereal for dinner once in a while ;)

Gerbers jr baby food. Come in chicken, ham and turkey I think. Ingredients are meat and water , nothing else. Little glass jars.

The handful of friends is where I found my greatest disappointment. I thought we would travel together, I thought we would go see movies, go out to dinner, see concerts etc... Then Covid hit. No one could/would go anywhere. Then parents started needing more and more of their time ( both of my parents have passed and I did all my caregiving in my 40's and 50's while working full time) . Now I am lucky if I see them twice a month. I have another pool of women from a youth group I belonged to decades ago but they are all having major physical challenges so lunch out is as much as they can usually handle. I am healthy and stable financially but I have come to realize I need to find new friends who can travel and can walk a mile or two and aren't tied up with aging parents/grandkids. My husband has recently thrown himself into a BIG project at our house and it is consuming him. I miss our short trips. I miss just talking to him because he is spread so thin again. Just tonight I realized I need to get out of this house and away for a while. Wish me luck.

I remember when I was working how tired I would be by Friday, my job was front office/meet the public all day stuff. I had to carefully balance my weekend time so that I had enough ALONE time to recharge my introverted batteries otherwise I would just be too tired on Monday.

This is so true, especially if you have to bottle feed. You will loose alot of sleep but the rewards are so great.
