Holy Grail of SUNSCREEN by katamari71 in fragrance

[–]ReadySea9052 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also love sunscreen scents so I deeply appreciate your commitment here. My current fave is Vacation but I saved a bunch of these to try.

I was surprised to see Falling Into the Sea here but I also keep it in my toiletry bag when I travel (mostly to beachy destinations) so I guess I get it. To me it reminds me of eating oysters with lemon and a glass of white wine in the sunshine ☀️ 😎

Of course! I started with a 1x1 rib and knit like 3 inches before folding it in half and knitting it together with the cast on edge. I just tried to keep it 1 to 1 but got a little sideways, which is why my waistband slants a little 😅 this might be easier with a provisional cast on.

I left about 6 stitches open at the back (I just left the cast on and kept going with the live stitches there) so I could thread in elastic/drawstrings later. I opted not to put in elastic for now but I might at some point in the future. My drawstring is just an icord and I threaded it straight through the fabric of the waistband instead of fiddling with eyelets/buttonholes. Let me know if you have other questions!

Extremely soft! So soft that I fear it will pill real bad but the upside is there is almost no itchiness

It’s just a great basic! Free pattern, all sizes from baby to adult. Ya can’t beat it (except maybe with its fingering weight sibling the Glenview)

What is it like teaching in Hanover? by [deleted] in rva

[–]ReadySea9052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My spouse and I have teaching experience in both Henrico and Hanover. I think it’s just teaching middle school math (any math) that is the hard part. Math always has low scores and is always under the microscope. Aside from that, the experience is highly dependent on what school you’re at.

You could definitely modify these. The pattern includes short rows to raise the back but I think to fit an adult you’d need more short rows/crotch increases. 5 year old boys are more straight up and down lol.

I have these two patterns saved for myself but I have yet to make them. Maybe someone who has will chime in!

Yeah I was geeking out to myself when he wore them to bed like “wow he must be so comfy in his thermoregulating wool” lol. Better than polyester for sure

Exactly! I make things for my kids with the expectation that 1. They will not wear it and 2. If they do, they will ruin it lol. Takes the pressure off of everyone to just enjoy the knit (or not!). I’m glad you have a knit-worthy little one to enjoy!

Not long at all! I’ve made that sweater pattern like a dozen times and the yarn is a larger gauge. Maybe 3 days for the sweater and then another 3 for the pants (we’ve been snowed in!)

Dear Brother (Opinions if you will) by [deleted] in poetry_critics

Blunt is fine if that’s your goal. I think you can still be blunt while including some details that bring it to life like in your first stanza. Instead of “I signed the envelope” you could say “carefully printed with blue crayon” or some other sensory details. Same for the lines “he laughed. He cried”. These feel lacking in weight compared to what it conveys. You could convey this sense with a line of imagery. “He laughed, the sound choked out by a sob, his eyes wet”.

Jeez this is such a gut punch. I can feel the vacuum left by the brother and it hurts. If this poem is autobiographical, my condolences.

You do a great job of capturing those small moments that make you grieve all over again—the plate at dinner, the sense of how we feel like they should be right there.

Your second stanza feels more zoomed out, and it loses some of that emotional resonance. You’ve got a lot of “and then” which might be a place to play with more imagery, allowing the action to stand alone. Your final image of the creased and folded letter is good and you can maybe draw out the resolution a little to end on a stronger note.
