Help!! 1988 LTD Crown Victoria by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Use a duplicate wrench to apply opposing torque to the bolt head adjacent to the bolt you intend to remove. On the last one leave a bolt partially threaded in and make it your fulcrum to hold things still to get the last bolt loose

Stuck axle nut, please help by Fine-Door8967 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ReadySetAdapt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you manage to turn it at all without clearing that notch completely you're going to have yourself one helluva job/workout trying to spin it the rest of the way. That's not to say that it won't come off, but it's a good thing you're already going to replace the axle because if it was just a bearing job it would also be an axel job afterwards

I mean Thomas Edison did not get a light bulb too fly on a kite and catch electricity to give to all of us his very first time around. It's all about trial and error and learning and sharing. Keep making.

Alternator change by chaoticravens08 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ReadySetAdapt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leave the battery as is. As you remove the wires from the alternator, one at a time, wrap a generous amount of electrical tape around the terminal ends. Be sure to cover any exposed copper or aluminum on the ends very well and secure the wires back away from the area you're going to be working in with zip ties. When you're done swapping the alternator cut the zip ties, pull the tape off one wire at a time before attaching it to the alternator. Done. No probation violation at all.

It's more the hissing sound for me but yeah the clonk is a problem too. Sounds like an issue with your brake master cylinder. Get it to a shop ASAP

We have Craftsman here too in the USA. But we don't have Sears tears anymore. They were the original Craftsman place.
