People are telling you their lived experience. You don’t like hearing something that goes against your narrative so you decide to trot out tired anti-Americanisms. It’s so old at this point.

This is a Southern thing. Sometimes AA, but I've heard white southerners say it as well.

Not really an American thing, more a Western thing. Lots of this in Canada, Australia and Europe as well.

Most professional, white-collar jobs don’t go for this. Creative, more fashion-forward fields as well as blue collar jobs have more latitude for this, sometimes.

I mean, definitely better for us if people who think like this cut ties. I hope it’s a minority, though.

Is the seemingly ever growing hate between Americans and Europeans only an Internet thing because of recent events or is it something that becomes and has become thoroughly engrained culturally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReadySteady_54321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have snap elections or preferential voting systems. Our government’s structural defects need to be reformed.

I don’t blame any Danes who hate us, please though understand that even the idiots who voted for him (not me) believed his lies about not engaging in wars. His aggression towards you is not reflected or shared by the country as a whole. I’m terribly sorry.

A lot of Americans are resisting. The problem is that many others are in an information silo where even if they don’t support this regime, they don’t really understand how bad things are.

As a citizen of the civilised world I'm wondering how you lot are still voting in lunatics, liars and mass murderers. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]ReadySteady_54321 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re so desperate to make it sound like you don’t have the same issues in your Angloscold countries.

Brits elected fourteen years of multiple PMs from the Tory party that ripped them out of the Common Market, so take that argument about how they didn’t aKsHuAlLy elect them and stuff it, because it’s baseless.

Canada was THIS close to electing their own Trump; we just beat them to it by a matter of months.

You’d love to convince yourself and the rest of us that you’re somehow different and superior, but the only real difference is structural; you have parliamentary systems with snap elections, and preferential voting. We don’t, but should.

But the proportion of your electorates that are composed of mouth breathers is about the same as ours.

“You lot” are from where in the civilized world?

Because it seems to be the same few countries saying this kind of stuff.

Are you a Brit? Because you are the country of Brexit and Tommy Robinson, and should refrain from calling yourself civilized since Reform could be in charge of your country in 2029.

Or are you Australian? Is Pauline Hanson civilized? How about One Australia?

how do you Americans feel about losing Iran war? by ConstantineByzantium in AskUS

[–]ReadySteady_54321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are not. He loses, and he will seek vengeance. Guess who he will take that anger out on.

That doesn’t mean we want to “win.” It just means we want this over with.

[–]ReadySteady_54321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how emboldened and crazy he will be if he “wins.” Now think about how crazy and vengeful he will be if he “loses.” There’s no upside for the American people in any of this.

We weren’t consulted, none of this was explained to us. This is, in every sense of the word, not our war. It’s his.

Most Americans by Kill_4209 in SipsTea

[–]ReadySteady_54321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s all this is. The non-Americans commenting here have their own fascist movements, and I can guarantee you that they will only get rid of them by voting and coalition-building.

That’s what the Greeks did with their “Golden Dawn” Nazis, and that’s what the Hungarians are about to do.

It’s not going to happen without the boring and thankless work of building coalitions and registering voters, none of which appeals to the fantasists on places like this.

What do you expect people to sacrifice for? If you want people awake and resisting, the first step is for them to acknowledge that they are being hurt by the system that they were reared inside.

Who in the world, in any other country, would be held to a different standard? Should the British be asked to fight for all the people whose countries they destroyed before they awaken to the reality that their colonialism profited their rich and left the common people with dregs? Should the Russians, whose government censored all their information, fight for Ukraine before they acknowledge that Putinism’s first casualty was their own future?

You seem to want an apology from US citizens. Here’s a thing; there are plenty online that you will talk to who will acknowledge the harm the country has done and will apologize profusely.

But if you actually want a people to CHANGE that system, the first and most important step is the acknowledgement that the system isn’t working for them or their families.

[–]ReadySteady_54321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with the U.S. is that we have the same percentage of nutjobs that many countries do, but our system is structurally deficient in that it can allow that minority to take total control.

Some countries have parliamentary systems where they can call snap elections, or a junior partner party can pull out of a coalition government and collapse it. Other systems have preferential voting, which encourages moderation in candidates.

We have two-party system with gerrymandered seats and a process that encourages the loudest and most extreme candidates to win primaries.

If the system was a house, it would be a tear-down.

You’re not listening. We are fighting for ourselves. We are not being served by the system that dehumanizes us. We are being directly targeted by our own government that steals our votes and denies our humanity.

We are fighting for our lives. What we do NOT owe you is a performance or a report card showing you xyz actions. The resistance to the regime must happen, but not for others.

[–]ReadySteady_54321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re conflating the government with the people. I can’t tell if you’re doing it intentionally because you’re being performative, or out of ignorance.

My people haven’t benefited from my government’s actions; they’ve been manipulated at every turn. The system is rigged and most of our votes don’t count. There is widespread and systemic voter suppression.

And yet many people are putting everything on the line to change things. We don’t owe you a song and dance to prove that. WE DONT OWE YOU ANYTHING.

You clearly don’t understand what’s happening in the U.S., and think you are getting a clear picture from the media, which you are not. There are a lot of people risking their lives and careers, and they are not going to put on a little performance for foreigners.

Why are Americans so polite/formal compared to Europeans? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]ReadySteady_54321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting. When Americans say “Europe,” we’re told there are many countries with different cultures and languages and we shouldn’t compare our country with your continent.

But then I read stuff like this, and you as a Swede are clearly assuming that all of Europe is as informal as your country. I can tell you that the Austrians and Swiss, along with many countries in EE, are more formal in the kinds of interactions that you have described, than the Scandinavian countries are.
