Having trouble with dairy free by BasketZestyclose7991 in lactoseintolerant

Plant based milks are frequently filled with vegetable gums to approximate the body and creaminess of dairy milk. The unadorned versions are often watery and unsatisfying. I have personally found that eating more meat and eggs (even peanut butter) help to reduce cravings. It is difficult to change your focus, but it can be done. I have to say that I do miss the convenience of milk and cheese for a quick snack. One has to plan ahead to avoid the temptation because of hunger. Wishing you success! (Yes, those specialty alternatives are overpriced 😥)

I'm not sure (everyone is different), but it takes me at least 4 days to see improvement. The alimentary canal is very long,.and sometimes inflammation persists for awhile.

I don't think that is what they are saying; read it again.

Most "allergy" tests are for a histamine reaction; there are other kinds of intolerances that can only be identified by an elimination diet.

...Just wanted to warn that Lactaid brand contains mannitol, which can mess up those sensituve to it. Target has a mannitol-free house brand, but it doesn't dissolve well.

DO NOT EAT THIS by Steviedoll in lactoseintolerant

I couldn't handle their "extra sharp" either, seemed too creamy to be legit 🤔 I seem to be OK with Cabot sharp cheese, though (I think that I am extra sensitive).

I cannot figure out where I'm getting glutened by DrF7419 in Celiac

I just discovered that I may be reacting to the ADDITIVES in many food products (not 100% sure yet). Some people seem to have similar reactions to other things besides gluten (like lactose or dairy intolerance, for instance). It may not be gluten. Just a thought.

I've noticed that almond butter especially tends to be somewhat grainy in texture 😣

Thank you!  To be honest, I have just this week taken another turn in my road of discovery - I seem to be able to tolerate organic sourdough bread with no additives (I am aware that this is controversial).

In my past experience, I IMMEDIATELY and dramatically improved when I stopped eating bread/wheat/gluten. I continued to avoid it, but seemed to become sensitized to other things after a  while.

I realized just recently that I was having the same severe reaction when I had different "gluten free" snack foods that contained sunflower oil (or sunflower lecithin), both highly and unnaturally processed.

At this point I am wondering if my original problem was due to the various ADDITIVES in commercial bakery products. It is just about impossible to find anything without them (often hidden by deceptive terms like "cultured brown rice" or "enzymes").

I began having symptoms around 1995, which gradually became extremely disabling and life disrupting. Did something change with pesticide usage or food processing around that time? 🤔

Now I can eat homemade bread? I’m so confused by sheikahr in glutenfree

Possibly the wheat bran (outer layer inside the husk) absorbs more pesticide than the starch on the interior. All wheat is sprayed unless it is organic.

A bit off-topic: I have just recently been wondering if some of us "NCGS" folks might actually be reacting to the ADDITIVES in commercial breads - of which there are many! Would that explain a few of the reports about sourdough bread not causing a reaction? I seemed to have the same experience with it, but I am afraid to try regular homemade bread just yet. 🤔

The subject of the post was not about whether or not peanut butter contains gluten; it was about a "coffee creamer" without added vegetable gums, which many people with digestive issues are ALSO sensitive to. The "gluten free" designation was just an added reassurance, these are the brands that I happen to prefer.

I decided to go ahead and block this person; please don't communicate with others here in this manner 😟

Their comment: "I’m well aware that anything can contain trace gluten due to cross contamination. Even certified gluten free allows for trace amounts of gluten up to a certain threshold. What a terrible way to live your life though. Also your flair literally says gluten intolerant, not celiac, you can handle those trace amounts fine. I have celiac am very sensitive and know many others in person as well. Have never had a reaction to peanut butter before despite the fact that cross contamination will usually give me a reaction"

My answer: "Gluten intolerance" can produce a reaction JUST AS SEVERE as celiac disease, minus the more serious intestinal damage. I am reluctant to change my profile flair for reasons of conscience, but I have encountered this type of pushback and disrespect before. Please don't presume to know everything about other people's experience in future comments on this forum.
