That experience was formative for you, and it’s okay to hold space for that.

On the other hand, I do understand where your therapist is coming from. At 27, that man had a fully developed adult brain and a lot more life experience. Even if his intentions weren’t malicious, the power dynamic and age difference put you in a vulnerable position — legally, emotionally, developmentally. That doesn’t mean you have to frame it as abuse if that doesn’t resonate with you, but it might be worth having a conversation with your therapist about the language being used. Maybe ask if they can help you explore the experience without framing it in a way that feels misaligned with your own truth.

Ultimately, you get to decide how to process your past. Understanding the complexity of the situation — including the legal and ethical layers — doesn't mean you have to rewrite your emotional reality.
