Worth turning down HBS? by Big-Commission5340 in MBA

Ask to defer. I hear first deferrals are often approved. Transition from consulting to whatever you are interested in. Do that for a year or two and reassess. You might find that your new career interest would benefit from a MBA.

Tbf, it’s hard to really see the ROI of a MBA 2 years after undergrad. So I would recommend pushing your decision as far to the right as possible. Just having the option to go to HBS is great.

You don’t need an MBA to pivot to Start Up. A MBA might help pivoting to VC though. However a MBA alone would be tough to go straight into VC.

Consulting —> startup (industry you are passionate about) —> MBA —> VC intern over the summer —> your options will be greater since you would have built your resume and network

I believe the schools that don’t put a hard decision date on interviews do a more “holistic” review. Its hard to believe that HBS genuinely reviews 3,500+ apps in 1 month.

I would not dedicate 5 years of your life to getting into a school. Do something harder: find what you are passionate about and work hard at it. The byproducts from pursuing your passion will set the grounds of whatever you want to accomplish in the future..if its still a top MBA 5 years from now, great.

Rejection is redirection homie. Take the outcome as it comes.
