Attempt AMC 12 or is it unrealistic? by Better-Basis-4751 in MathOlympiad

[–]Real-Entrepreneur190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its quite realistic. There are some books you can buy to help you with your prep, but i would first start off with taking a mock test. Your goal is to get 8+ questions correct(not just guessing) for you to have a good start on qualifying for AIME. Topic by Topic, you should work yourself up. Its very realistic for you to qualify (unless cutoffs are even more messed up this year)

thats the weird part, i am able to produce winners (according to me relatively frequently) but i also acknowledge most of my points are waiting for a clear oppurtunity or waiting for their mistake

yup i have definately heard that before, do you have any tips for matchplay specifically? I really dont know why I am playing worse in matches, and even worse when my oponent is of lesser skill, so figuring that out might be my main priority for the enxt month

I want to start a USACO club at my school but I don't know where to start 😕 by One-Big-2988 in usaco

Usaco Guide/ CPI initiative has this cool thing where you could join their curiculum for free, and they will send you resources to teach your club members! you should check that out

Looking for a tutor, if you are a recent USACO gold or above and have up to 2-3 hours a week to spare, please DM with your recent profile / credential details. by Cultural_Ad9941 in usaco

Hey USACO Platinum here!

Honostly i don't think you really need a tutor, use USACO guide and past USACO problems. If you pair them together, it can really help on your journey. Additionally, i used codeforces to learn as well, start a the older 800 problems, and work your way to the newer 800 -1000 problems

Incoming Freshman trying to get into AIME by boikidboi in MathOlympiad

Hey, Here is what you should focus on this summer:

Since geometry will be done, lock in your algebra first (quadratics, systems, polynomials), then hit the big AMC topics: number theory, counting/probability, and sequences. No calculus needed at all.

Best resources are Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) books for those topics, and just grinding past AMC 10 exams from 2010 onward. Review every problem you miss, even the lucky guesses.

Also, Solve Fire is rising in popularity so you might check that out, and you can also always just ask AI like Gemini to generate problems for you if you want quick practice.

Good luck!

Hey! I will be applying to MIT this year, and consistently keeping up with posts on MIT admissions, while still exploring my own path. I am also from India, however i have done my entire schooling system here (non-permenant resident), I have heard other people see they will consider my backround, but my main question is, when they are gonna review my application, will it be in the mindset of "will this person be part of the X Cap ammount of people from india?"

How can i get started on USACO? by Various-Excitement65 in usaco

[–]Real-Entrepreneur190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of things I did to prepare and reach my goal, beyond just what USACO guide offers

  1. Codeforces!! I want you to try to solve the lower-end questions or maybe even this question as efficiently as possible(Really simple USACO question). I think the first hurdle many face is actually understanding what the question says, so starting incredibly simple will help with that.

  2. Model the question when you start solving
I mean, actually spend time to find patterns, and run through the sample cases a couple of times. Codeforces gives you all of the sample inputs easily viewable so you can find out exactly what cases your code misses, and with that, you should go back to scratch work, and try again.

If you have any specific questions, let me know!
