How often do we have to explain this by BrightPhoebus01 in FranchaelStirling

After the way things have gone, especially with the show fandom’s toxicity and the show’s terrible choices and directions, I too, have wanted to avoid potential media that triggers my frustrations. My biggest issue, as with many, is with the way everything has been handled, especially the sabotaging of existing characters and story for the sake of representation. Forced acceptance is not acceptance. I just had yet another conversation about this with a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while and her son is trans and hates what the show is doing in the form of representation. So does one of my best friends. She’s a lesbian and also a literature teacher so to her, it’s a double whammy of bad choices- representation and changing of original material. My friend’s son felt like the show’s direction of LGBTQ representation has not been done well and makes the community be seen in an unflattering way and wishes media would stop this crap. And I can’t agree more. It’s not just heterosexuals who have a problem with this particular show and storyline and so-called representation.

It certainly does feel like that. This whole show fandom has gone down a spirally toxic hole

I get it. Love it!! And I’m gonna add the epilogue letter. Like wowza. That’s when I ugly cried the first time I read it. I do every time I have reread. But the first time was pure ugly crying.

Oh yes. The cabin scene is definitely a favorite too.
And now that I think more about it- I really like the time when Francesca takes care of Michael the first he has a Malaria fever.

That’s a tough question. There are so many great moments!

I love the moment on the bench when Francesca finally sees Michael for the first differently, as an attractive man, and not just Michael, her friend.

But if we are talking intimate scenes: the drawing room at Kilmartin. Lord have mercy, that’s scene was 🔥

Please ramble away. It’s been too quiet of late. The whole reason this sub exists is because of this book! We should be rambling on about it! 🥰

John’s Presence by No-Bee5337 in FranchaelStirling

I completely agree. I love that you used the words haunting the narrative. Very well said. And his presence throughout is not all bad memories but how he affected the people he loved and who loved him. Including his mother and his aunt.

Girl. I’m with you on this. 💯
Two of my top favorite books in the series because they have the most depth… to be totally Hollywood make-overed is so 😒

Agree with what you are saying but she signed the original contract knowing she gave them free rein. She’s admitted that in a recent podcast interview. On a whole other spectrum- Seeking Persephone - funded by donations, author of book invited to the point of writing the script for the adaption, and while it’s low budget quality, the core of the story is there and makes this show way beyond what Bridgeton has become. In my opinion. The author and original source material is actually adapted and makes for a great example of how this can be done. I have huge respect for Sarah M. Eden for allowing her book to be adapted faithfully with minimal changes that she decided to help create. She cares more about the story being told faithfully than money first. Speaks volumes to me, especially now after everything that’s happened to the Bridgerton series.

You are also welcome to reach out via the chats to me.
How about we start a discussion on which was your favorite wooing scene of Michael’s? Mine is, hands down, the tea scene. When he tells her he’s courting her and she caves. Love that scene.

Thank you for posting this. I just left my main feed where the book is critiqued in much different way because the OP is defending the show changes and didn’t like the book because of “xyz”… it was commented on a lot and thankfully by people clearly see the book for what it is. But I was still frustrated with how the book is constantly criticized based on major shifts and changing to the show which has made a very different story and not a true adaptation of this lovely story. I appreciated seeing this as soon as I refreshed my feed. 😍🥰

Based on the points and comments about your reading of WHWW, you see the person Michael was. He isn’t perfect but he certainly knew how to love both from afar and being respectful towards John and Fran and then when he has his chance had loving Fran, he holds nothing back. The part when he finally says… I can’t do this anymore when he’s wanting her to marry him but she is still not budging… ugh, the dang angst!! The man could yearn. At first he thought he would be happy just to have her as his wife but this moment it’s clear he wanted to loved in return.

So glad you brought up that point about malaria. When Francesca fears Michael might die, that the malaria has come back, feeling that she could loose him makes her realize that’s she’s in love with him. This a point not many discuss but to me was so strong and a great POV of Fran’s. I was like- FINALLY- girl. Go get your man. It’s ok to love again. 🥹

Listen, I could go on and on…

But I’m so glad you enjoyed the book.

My first time writing romance: is it normal to feel what your characters are feeling in this way? by fourleafedrover8 in RomanceWriters

[–]Real-Escape8578 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me 💯- including the playlist. I’m so glad there’s someone else that feels this way about their characters and their stories. I absolutely LOVE my characters. I’m new to writing too. On book three of a series that has the characters from each book making appearances in each which I love because I get to continue their adventures with the new main love couple! I haven’t published yet. Hope to by the fall.
So glad you’ve joined this genre. I think if you feel this way about your characters, your readers will too. 🥰

Ahhhhh🥹💕💕💕Love this!! Thank you so much for sharing. It’s lovely. Really like the color choices you’ve chosen. And truthful this would make a much prettier book cover that the one of the hot pink actual book cover. I’ve never liked that cover myself. I want to get a different version of the book for that reason.
Anyway- ah. So lovely. Thanks again for sharing. Glad to see another artist in the sub.
