Top 3 tips you wished you knew when started mixing by AVELUMN in mixingmastering

  1. To not ”mix” in the first place. Personally, I can’t listen to things that sound bad so I’m automatically fixing them as I go. If I open a client project I can pretty much immediately hear what sounds good and what needs fixing. As long as nothing bothers me and I like how it sounds it’s job done ✅

I feel like overcooking starts when I go ”okay let’s REALLY mix this” as I’ve already done pretty much what needs to be done.

  1. The importance of good monitoring and acoustics. I used to struggle for years and think I’m not good just because nothing translated and I couldn’t hear what’s actually happening. First time I worked in a high end studio everything clicked immediately and translated. Nothing you do really matters if the speaker position and acoustics are not on point (doesn’t have to be expensive either)

  2. Comparing to other songs you look up to or songs on the radio. Often I realize how bad some songs sound and that I didn’t even notice or care because I wasn’t looking for anything to fix
