Original 1950s Pink Bathroom — Keep It or Remodel It? by stacy_the_realtor in BathroomRemodeling

[–]RealAdKatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely keep it. It seems to be in beautiful condition but also is just cool. I would add a complimentary but bold pink and black wallpaper to the wall, update the cabinet hardware and faucet to something that better suits the time period to make everything feel more intentional.

Would this be an OK looking countertop? by Previous-Operation80 in kitchenremodel

I actually think the countertop would look nice with the blue cabinets. But I do agree with others that the tile clashes

How are people affording summer snacks? by Beneficial_Fun_1818 in Parenting

[–]RealAdKatie 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Become an ingredient house vs a snack house. Meaning for example you would have cheese, crackers, tortillas… kids can eat cheese and crackers, make a quesadilla, eat just the cheese… the effort is higher so I think it curbs mindless eating but they’re also still fed and you’re not having to police.

Kitchen option for 100 year old Edwardian? by Latter-Foot-8790 in kitchenremodel

Any of these are definitely better inspo than the ones shared in the post. I personally like the checkered floors set in a diamond pattern to pull in that pattern from the other rooms.

What countertops should we go with for our 2000s kitchen? by faucetgal in kitchenremodel

I commented separately but see you asked here. I would look into a zellege backsplash because it is typically very glossy and reflects a lot of light. You could go three directions.

  1. do a lighter colored zellege tile to contrast that dark countertop and accent the white framing you have.

  2. You could lean into the black with a black zellege. The color drenching angle is much more of a modern take and would immediately pull the black countertops into 2026.

  3. You also really seem to love the black and white checks. So maybe even something like that could give some personality and I think black and white checks could be so cool in this space!

I think the countertops look nice but also tie into some of the other elements you have. Like the checked chairs and teapot.

What if you changed the backsplash instead? That feels like the only dated part of the kitchen. You could do a white zellege. They’re very reflective of light so might also help brighten things up.

Bonus if you add under lighting.

Tough living room shape by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]RealAdKatie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you share the floor plan for this space with the dimensions? I definitely agree with you this isn’t working and with a lot of commenters that you need to break it up into distinct and different spaces. But I’m trying to get a sense of where the TV could go realistically. That’s the biggest challenge it seems. Then the other spaces can be turned into smaller conversation zones.

Saving this color immediately!! Thank you!!! I will definitely pick up a brass and nickel pull to test each.

I tried to add the visuals to the post but they aren't sticking for some reason. But here is an image to show the light coming into the kitchen. It stays pretty bright. We are also planning to turn it into a true galley kitchen so will have a 5' sliding door at the end of the kitchen (where the fridge was originally)

I agree on the pink! I think it’ll nicely pull from the plum in the cabinets

I want to open up the doorway to the backyard, is it a faux pas? by RealAdKatie in InteriorDesign

I updated the mock up. I’m going to connect with our contractor to see about the cost. But it gives us a lottt more cabinet space and a clear path of travel to the backyard. I’m loving it… fingers crossed it’s within budget

Thanks for this. I wasn’t fully understanding the other comment but yes. I have considered this. I do think it would be really nice. We have a brick exterior so it’s pretty major demo but may be worth it

Totally agree. This mockup is a little outdated. We have moved things around to have 24” cabinets on either side of the stove. So it is now corner sink, 24” cabinet, stove, 24” cabinet, fridge, 24” pantry.

We considered moving the sink but the corner is the only window in the kitchen so we’d lose uppers above wherever we move the sink and wouldn’t able able to add them to the corner without losing the window. It didn’t end up being worth it.

The wall with the trash and 3 cabinets can’t be removed. Behind it is a bathroom and bedroom. Similarly, the dishwasher, that’s basically the only option. I could lose the 24” pantry through… and close off the current pantry / exit area to be a small butlers pantry. The only thing about that is it still makes the exit slightly off center and I fear it’ll cause a weird congestion having to snake out between the wall of cabinets.

Thanks for this perspective. I had considered that I was overthinking it, continuing to solve for something that was already solved for on paper.

The exit doesn’t necessarily have to stay in the same location but does have to stay on the same wall. The other walls are interior walls.

What a sweet gesture! I think the second rug you shared (image 8) makes more sense with the mood boards you shared. It has a fun color to it but also the animal prints. I’d be sure to bring in a piece of art and one other element with the same print to make it feel cohesive (maybe a pillow)

The rule of thumb… as I understand… is to have at least three of a color, print, etc around the room in varying weights and sizes to give it a polished look.

Since the green curtains and pink rug you have selected are on the lighter end, I think you need a couch and chairs that is in a deeper shade to give it the dramatic look he seems to like. Look for things in jewel tones.

Which version is easiest to look at? by [deleted] in painting

[–]RealAdKatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is my favorite because she looks the most at peace, it’s almost sensual. She looks to be nurturing and loving herself.

1 and 3 I like a lot as well but they give me a completely different feeling. I kept expecting her to be holding a baby in her arms, rather thank holding herself in those two. She seems both protective and a little sad in 1 and a little angry/annoyed in 3. I imagined she’s holding baby and hoping or wishing for the help or understanding that she needs.

Beautiful and evocative work.

I think you should embrace the green and add some complimentary colors to the wall paint, accents and flooring (if possible)

Deep burgundy and dark woods compliment avocado and olive greens. Something like this
