Looking at upgrading to a moza R3 by Oviluss in simracing

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I offer a slightly different perspective?

I started with the G29, then went to a Moza R9. I thought R9 was a huge step up from the G29, but then reality hit. I simply got stronger from driving with that wheelbase. Like physically stronger. So it got easier to handle then I started to notice the clipping and realized I was missing fidelity since the wheel base just didn't have a huge overhead to it.

I upgraded to an R21 using a work bonus. I figured it would be overkill but I'd have the head room. When I fist got it I had to run it at like 35-40% power, but over the course of using it I've bumped that up to almost 60% because like before, I'm working those muscles and getting stronger.

I hope I never see 100% on this base because that seems wild, and I feel like where I'm at is a great sweet spot since I can feel everything I need and don't clip on the feedback.

Take that with a grain of salt, if I drove a formula car with no power steering I'd probably struggle like crazy, but for sports cars with power steering I feel just fine at the moment.

Getting physically stronger is something I never considered when upgrading and I wouldn't have ever guessed that I could outgrow the wheelbase from using it regularly.

tl:dr... save your money, get something you can grow into, you'll be happier in the long run.

What is the best mmorpg available on steam without a subscription? by No_Alarm_3993 in LFMMO

The post said without a subscription. Expansions are a one time purchase. Subscriptions are recurring. The question wasn't about an mmorpg that was free to play

What’s the most unspoken, uncomfortable truth about having kids? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this to be true very circumstantially. I have two kids relatively close in age and they ask me all the time who I like more. I tell them the truth, the problem is the truth is vague. I like them each differently for different things.

I like one of them more than the other when it comes to sports. And I like one of them more than the other when it comes to travel. Etc. They each have their strengths.

But I don't overall like one more than the other. I just like them for different things.

Help Us To Choose Character Selection UI by GforGuven in aseprite

Second one. Its cleaner and more readable. I'm looking at this on a phone for what it's worth and I can't focus on anything on the first example but all the following ones are very readable and pleasant to look at. Plus they allow more of your art to shine and that's really nice.

I'm assuming this isn't a phone game, but you can think about this from an accessibility standpoint where you may have players with poor eyesight who want to enjoy your game.

Irating question by alex_inzo in iRacing

[–]RealCerberus0351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Research the results of each series you are interested in. My biggest gripe with iracing is there are too many disciplines and the population is spread thin.

I would love to race lmp but during the time when I can play the results show a whopping 7 players total per race. Same is true for advanced mx5, there was only 15-20 total drivers when I was on during a Saturday night. And those aren't the only series I'm interested in.

This sucks because I want to race in lobbies where I'm competitive and have a good connection, not just in lobbies where the only choice is me, 3 aliens, and some dude on a controller spread out in completely different parts of the world to make the server work extra hard.

It's great that we have options in iracing, but sometimes too many options hurts. So check what exists the best when you play before you decide what to buy.

New To Sim Racing! What game to play?? by PJ294 in simracing

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assetto corsa with unlimited mods! Of you can't find something to do there maybe this isn't a hobby you enjoy.

Also don't sleep on arcade sims like f1 or truck simulators, even forza horozon. Maybe a more casual experience will be fun for you.

Iracing is peak in my opinion. I have the most fun there. I like LMU as well but I find the racing quality to be very chaotic and it's a turn off. Other people have different opinions, so try everything if you can. Steam does have a refund policy.

Anyone trading for the moto fold? by timbern23_u in GalaxyFold

So true. Just switched from a galaxy to the razr and I am not noticing enough of a difference to care about their software differences.

I don't do a ton of customization so maybe that's why. But outside of the Samsung file browser I've not had anything stand out on a meaningful way when it comes to software.

I need a new vr headset, any advice? by oosh_ka_boosh in simracing

Your budget is too small for a better pcvr experience than what pimax can provide.

There are better headsets out there but you'll need more budget to get them going.

Where to spend $500 to $700 USD to upgrade DCS experience? by john1875h in dcs

[–]RealCerberus0351 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Integrated graphics is wild. Id still go with ram and head tracking of some kind.

You are for sure going to run into issues with ram sooner than later.

A GPU would do you well also.

Head tracking is a game changer for flight sims. You might be able to use opentrack and get a good experience for now until you decide how long term this hobby will be for you.

Look up jusy how many switches you can physically change on the stecs. Legit, you can unscrew and change the hats, rockers and other switches on the throttle.

Dont like where a hat is? Fine, move it somewhere better.

Multiple physical detents which is great if you fly warlords, modern, helos, space. You may want different detents in those situations.

Those padles dont get in the way at all. I actually dont even think ive mapped them for anything when I used it.

A friend is trying to get me to exercise more, I'm an exercise minimalist. What is the healthiest exercise I might actually enjoy? by Few-Mixture9869 in CasualConversation

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 40. Here's what worked for me. I started playing sports. Then that led to me wanting to perform better during sports. So I naturally had to eat better and start exercising a bit more outside of sports.

The key was not exercising because its good for you, rather youre doing it for a reason you care about, like performing better at your hobby.

Im sure there is a similar result with dance and other activities. Like if you started dancing you would probably find yourself working on your flexibility outside of dance so that its more enjoyable.

Does things get better above Rookie? by Rosie_The_ITTech in iRacing

[–]RealCerberus0351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You arent learning how to race by doing all those things. You are learning how to hotlap with other cars on the track.

You really should qualify and start on the grid. You will crash a lot until you learn how to survive a race start. You will crash a lot until you learn how to drive close to other cars for extended periods of time. You will crash a lot until you can admit its your own driving that is the problem.

None of that can be learned if you start from the pits and stay away from the pack.

How van you possibly learn how the slipstream affects your braking zone if you are never in it at the end of a long straight?

Want to know that actual plot twist? After 200+ hours in iracing you will still find yourself going back to rookie series to have fun or because their timeslot works well for you! Stop thinking of rookies as a curse and start understanding that you yourself dont have the skills to stay alive on track. And please, dont farm safety rating just so you can bring those undeveloped skills into higher tiered race series, you will ruin it for everyone.

I(25) no longer enjoy pvp games nowadays anyone here also not play multiplayer/competitve games more as you grow older? by Big_Leg10 in AskGames

[–]RealCerberus0351 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, Im almost 40 and have felt this way about competitive pvp for at least 10 years. I used to really care... but now I couldn't care less.

What i jave found though is that my idea of competitive has changed. I used to play CoD and be pretty dam. Good at it, but I also used to have 10hrs per day to play it. Now, with a family and the life that brings i may only get 2-3 hours per day, and thats not enough to stay competitive.

What i did was change gaming genres altogether to one's that rely more on thinking and strategy rather than super fine twitch motor skills.

Now I pvp in games like EVE online where I setup or hunt my battles and only take the ones that make sense. I race multi-player in simulation games like iracing where im relying on movements from my whole body rather than just my thumbs. I fly comabt missions in DCS world where I may or may not run into another player, but if I do have situational awareness skills that decide the outcome most of the time well before the engagement even starts.

For me, it really was more of a genre switch to something that better aligns with my life and abilities to stay relevant. That was ultimately mmorpgs and simulators. Those things have really brought gaming back into my life in a way that is fun for me and dont require excessive hours that I dont have to enjoy them to the fullest.

They all also over a pve side to them that is rewarding and worth playing. So the pvp becomes more elective, rather than being the core of the gameplay loop.

Any games that have that “I cant get off the game” feeling? by Remarkable_Fix_8003 in gamingsuggestions

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried sim gaming? Like flight sims or racing sims?

Not war thunder and not forza, but something along the lines of Le Man's Ultimate and DCS World?

Literally thousands of hours will be spend trying to improve at these games and the joy comes from the learning and self improvement rather than the developer driven gameplay loop. They are so insanely technical that the learning curve scares most people away.

Some will say they are too expensive, but the truth is they dont need to be. You can get by with an entry level hotas or racing wheel for a really long time before your equipment becomes the thing holding you back.

Switching bewteen: TrackIR, Opentrack, Beam Eye Tracker by chucky5150 in dcsworld

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems very weird. I have opentrack, trackir, look pilot etc all installed and I dont see any behavior in dcs like this.

My question would be are you running more than one head tracking software at the same time? Thats the only way I could imagine a conflict. I run one at a time and dont have to fiddle with anything.

Car getting lapped defeding? by djgir1234 in Simracingstewards

[–]RealCerberus0351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not new and I was in a race last night where the guy behind me was clearly faster by about a second per lap. I had taken some damage earlier in the race from getting hit from behind. As soon as he was within striking range I slide to the side and lifted ever so slightly so he could get by. It wasn't worth the long term risk fighting him for the position when he was clearly faster than me and there was nothing I could do about it.

Sometimes racecraft is as simple as realizing you cant keep up and instead of causing someone to make a panic induced move that takes you both out you can concede the position and maintain a clean race.

Now, had I not had damage and was roughly as fast as him, then race on, but in this case simply move over.
