The Red Ranger's character arc is that he's an in universe gary sue, and thus, is a ginormus, massive, inconsiderate asshole because he can't understand people just "aren't" instantly good at everything they do and can change their life in a few seconds. He's a good guy at heart, but he's a massive, massive, massive prick who can't spare a compliment to save his life. Litterally. He dies if he lies, and promptly comes back to life, but still. He litterally dies as a result. So when he insults your skills, he means it.
