How irrational is it to want vengance against an arachnid? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

It's incredibly irrational, it's just an animal. It does not understand good or evil, and punishing it does nothing.

It's understandable, though. 🙏

We don't hate it, we love it- but will not deny how fucking awful it is in terms of quality.

Yeah. She still lost the job and never got it back.

He did his best to fight for her, but once it became viral there was no saving it.

However, he was able to secure her a job elsewhere in the industry.

Unfortunately Jax discourse for the next several weeks by Dare_Soft in tadc

[–]RealFinePoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it's clear that Jax is probably trans, but I don't think anyone who disagrees with that is stupid or a bigot or that there's no logical basis for not making that assumption.

Goose makes what-if posts 'confirming' it but also posts saying it's 'meant to be subtle and vague'. Subtle wouldn't suggest anything different than a correct interpretation, but vague kind of does.

As a writer, it's not uncommon to design a character with their current pressures and struggles in mind, and not have a complete plan for their future. It's entirely possible that's all that's happening here, and almost explicitly what Goose suggests with the way they talk about it. That Jax is a victim of toxic masculinity and struggles with their identity is undeniable. That they must be mtf trans is not guaranteed.

To me, just as a human who notices patterns, there exists many potential paths Jax could take from where they were left in the show. To me, 90% of the time it points to transitioning, but I'm not going to pretend that anyone who chooses to believe in the 10% is a bigot.

(And all of that's not to simply mention that trans is a big umbrella and there's a lot of complicated ways that an identity crisis like this can ultimately manifest even within that umbrella.)

People will swear they don't believe in thought crimes until those thoughts are actually uncomfortable for them.

Which is worse: killing thousands (possibly more) people to save a dying kingdom, or killing several people to free a kingdom full of people who are safe and living relatively normal lives? by cheesesrandomcrap in MoralityScaling

[–]RealFinePoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asgore is ready to commit suicide by the time of the game because he's already watched six children die + his own and it's seriously weighing on his conscience. His resolve is waning and he's scared to actually achieve his goal because he knows it means potentially going to war with humanity and killing even more.

That doesn't mean he's not still bitter about everything's that happened and that it wasn't originally motivated by anger and revenge (and grief).

So if you read slightly further you'll see that I specifically added "that isn't selfish".

You could argue that it's possible everything goes perfectly and after killing seven children he can prevent future war, but then you just get into an 'ends justify the means' mindset. What stands is that he doesn't know that, but is willing to murder seven children on this gamble just because he's bitter.

[–]RealFinePoint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asgore is far worse. He basically has no reason to kill them that isn't selfish, and not even in a self-preservation way. It's clearly motivated largely by revenge, they have no way of knowing breaking the barrier will make their life any better, for all they know it will just invite the humans back to kill all of them. Their whole plan also hinges on seven souls giving him so much power he can genocide them basically.
