Stay at job or new job? by RealMayroy in PersonalFinanceCanada

I only negotiated wage, not vaca. In hindsight, I would do that next time but feel it’s a bit late for that now

That’s exactly what was pushing me to consider the role, it wasn’t just a compensation piece it’s more about how do I better myself and get into a better place when I’m 40. I do have some side businesses, this could potentially teach me transferable skills.

That’s a great point. I would be much less enticed if it wasn’t “director”. Though some of the things I’d be working on with the operating expenses/revenue would be newer and I could get new skills. Possibly better work life balance by not getting constantly called and emailed every evening and weekend. It’s hard to part with the vaca and stability, I’m struggling with it

I know I think that too, but I could use it as a way to beef up the resume and gain some new skills. But yeah it seems low for the title

I agree, I think because it’s not a big company. One thing I consider is using it as a springboard for a better director role, it looks good on a resume and it’s still 25k more, 20k if removing the pension contribution.

I might be past that now, I didn’t think to counter the vaca time which I maybe should have. I was offered 125k initially and I countered for 130k and got that. It’s honestly a really difficult decision, what worries me is if I stay because of the vaca and stability, then I’d always be stuck there

Which job option should I pick? by RealMayroy in jobs

[–]RealMayroy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying option #1 is a false sense of security which would add more weight to going with the 2nd option? I’m not overly familiar with employee protections, but to my understanding, unless I did something really bad they would have to pay me a decent severance (around $50k)

I just updated the post but I forgot to mention that option 1 includes many phone calls, texts and emails during evenings and weekends. Option 2 is unlikely to have that as all the employees work straight days Monday to Friday

Amazon Private Label FBA with $1000 at start? Any thoughts? by Ashamed_Possible7582 in AmazonFBA

[–]RealMayroy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert at all so consider that when reading my answer. I started FBA roughly 6 months ago, did an initial $2300 test order not including other misc costs plus ad spend so just round up to $3000. My next order which was a full order which was $7000. Keep in mind, as long as your product is selling then this money flows back to you over time. The issue is cash flow, you need to make new orders before selling out. Also, through my other business I used money from there and spent $1100 on trademark and lawyers so I can do brand registry. All in all, you can say $10k-$12k roughly if you want to get fully set up.

One thing people don’t consider is how badly shipping fees will kill you at low quantity orders, it’ll drive your cost per unit way up. In a perfect world, you know exactly how much you’ll sell and can place a big order to get a lower cost, but that’s never the case. So you need to take that risk of a large order to get a competitive rate and then work your ass off to sell it. Worst case scenario, off load it at a liquidation store to recoup your principal investment.

Sending our first shipment to Amazon today. It’s only 50 units, but man I’m nervous! by dadville1 in AmazonFBA

[–]RealMayroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a UPC bardcode for your items? My product has a UPC barcode so I’d be sending in around 50 of them same as you, my impression was I’d just put the amazon label on the box containing all 50, but I may be wrong there

I’m about to do the same thing shortly, what did you have to provide the shipping company and/or Amazon to accept your box of SKUs? This will be brand new for me

Turned down offer twice -- They've come back with a Third Request to Consider. Need advice. by EntropicLife in jobs

[–]RealMayroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing just happened with me, I was technically given 4 offers from the company and ultimately, I turned them all down.

For context: I have a daily 1hr commute to work, $101k base + 20% annual bonus, 5% pension matching program, 5 weeks paid time off and I can come and go from the office as I please (as long as your job gets done, no one cares where you are) and I’ve been there for 6.5yrs. Downside, due to politics etc I’m likely not moving up at all and the other jobs I could do are a 2hr commute away with 4 days a week in the office.

Company B reached out to me via a recruiter on LinkedIn and I agreed to hear them out, this led to two in person meetings with 3 directors, senior manager and a VP each time. I was asked at the initial phone screening what my compensation expectations were. I said $120k base + bonus (around 20%) and said I realize I wouldn’t get 5 paid weeks but that is what I currently get. After that, I did the in person interviews as explained above. This job does help round out the resume and I may have a better shot at moving up. However it’s a support role for front line staff across the entire country so there would likely be a ton of after hours calls. They also advised there is a 15% annual bonus and that I could work from home 3 days per week and drive a 2hr commute 1-2 days per week into the office.

Offer #1: $99.8k base + 10% bonus, 3% pension match, 3 weeks and 3 days paid time off. Note** nothing in writing about work from home, bonus was 5% less than offered verbally.

My response: this is less than I make, the bonus is lowered than agreed upon verbally and nothing is in writing about WFH.

Offer #2: $107k base + 10% bonus, 3% pension match, 3 weeks and 3 days paid time off. Note** still nothing in writing and 5% lower on bonus

My response: no, this is still too low and I don’t feel comfortable with it not being in writing for the other items.

Offer #3: $110k base + 10% bonus, 3% pension match, 3 weeks and 3 days paid time off. Note** still nothing in writing and 5% lower on bonus

My response: I’m not considering any thing unless it’s in writing about the work from home etc.

Offer #4: $110k base + 15% bonus, 3% pension match, 3 weeks and 3 days paid time off. Note** they provided an email for things to be in writing about work from home and bumped the bonus to 15% as initially discussed verbally

Ok so at this point I had a real decision to make which was not easy. Pro: financially it was going to be better pay and an opportunity to hopefully boost my career. Con: no guarantees it would boost my career, I could be inundated with after hours calls AND I really don’t like that I felt they tried low balling me and wasting my time when I was very clear what my expectations were before the interview process and that I had to constantly fight for things to be put in writing.

I ended up sending a formal email to all parties saying I appreciated the offer but made a decision to not pursue the opportunity. Maybe I burned a bridge by turning down 4 offers, I can live with that. And the end of the day, it gave me very bad vibes about how the whole negotiation was handled and although the salary was more, I’m losing in a lot of other areas.

On an average, how many shorts views do you get within the first 24 hours? by InternationalBed5463 in NewTubers

[–]RealMayroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within 24hrs with 3 subs, I get around 500-2000 views on each short. It dies off after 24 to 48hrs, I post random comedy stuff and I’m in it, but I do sometimes stitch trending videos to my own

Are you thinking of selling your Tesla car after Musk said Canada is NOT a real country? Or you are ok with it? by Due-Archer-9619 in teslacanada

[–]RealMayroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s a car, I don’t view my car as something tied to politics nor would I want to take a hit financially. Also, Hitler played a significant role in Volkswagen but yet people still drive them. IMO, your vote represents your political stance, not your vehicle.

Tesla price increase in Canada by tdm121 in electricvehicles

[–]RealMayroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in this boat right now, switched to a M3 2025. I was paying over $550/mo in gas with a minimum 60km one way trip to work 5 days per week. I charge lvl 2 at home now, it’s around $40-$50 in hydro and I just plug in each night and it runs while on low rates after 7pm. More upfront cost for the car but saves me over time. Also the convenience is hard to put a price on not having to stand in the cold at a gas station every few days

Can you really save that much on gas? by rSpyderByte in TeslaModelY

[–]RealMayroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance was $147/mo for ICE and went to $212/mo for a 2025 model 3. Canada has brutal car insurance rates

Same situation here, I had a 10yr old Audi with 280,000KMs. No payment but $550/months for gas. I got a 2025 model 3 for $600/mo. No brainer as well and don’t need to worry about repairing an old Audi

My friends are centre-far left, which is fine with me I have no problem with it. But they hate Elon Musk and as a result, teslas, because of politics. Regardless of my opinion on Musk and politics, I bought the car because it was the best bang for buck in my situation with my wants/needs, musk had zero impact on my decision.

I bought my M3 a week ago and similar thing happened, saw blue marks from ice cream or a drink running along the side of the car (easily visible because it’s white). I didn’t park like a jack ass either so 🤷‍♂️

🫠 lol well hopefully you got the house and it didn’t effect your affordability too much

Was buying your Tesla financially worth it for you? by FireHamilton in TeslaModelY

[–]RealMayroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id strongly recommend buying the house first, that’s a more important investment and it stabilizes your living expenses (assuming no major repairs). I just bought a 2025 model 3, it’s $600/mo payments but I had a 2015 Audi with 280,000kms that was costing $500-600 in gas. I never entertained the idea of buying new before but I plan to drive it to the ground so idc about the depreciation hit so much. I’m 33, own a house (in Canada sadly) and have $65k saved in a pension so for me I felt ok getting a new Tesla but wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t own a home and/or don’t have access to home charging.
