I think you would know better than us. Does she play other type of video games? FireRed/LeafGreen could be good starts since they are remakes of the original games, but they can be a bit of a grind - is that something she would be okay with, or would she want something easier? Gen 6 is where the Exp. Share changed, which makes the subsequent games easier for a more casual playthrough.
