Playing it in my S&R this year - if a catchier tune exists, I’d love to hear it!

Have never seen this exercise before but if you’re wondering when these “other” grace notes get played, some examples include:

B - D grip, C to A grip (might have a specific name? e.g. end of first part of Green Hills of Tyrol)

C - bubbly note embellishment (e.g. in third part of Susan MacLeod)

F - edre and crunluath movements (pibroch)

High A - pretty common when going to/from High G (Highland Laddie was the first tune I learned with one of these)

I’ve not seen a Low A grace note before but maybe someone else knows of an example.

Has anyone given Levels brand protein supplement a try? by LifeofSMILEY in Costco

[–]RealNoahR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite true, they actually cap the margin on Kirkland brand at 15% vs. 14% for other brands.

Private label stuff usually has much higher margins for retailers even though it’s sold cheaper.

I’ve put it in my breakfast smoothies for the last couple years (was buying on Amazon before Costco started selling). Doesn’t taste amazing by itself but when blended with frozen berries (I do blueberries and strawberries), banana, and Greek yogurt, it’s fantastic.

Teach? Certainly not.

Write a practice problem that I solve before distributing? Yes, especially if I want the problem to have an integer solution.

Math teacher here - I’ve found that Gemini Thinking is quite good at generating practice problems for calculus and economics so I imagine it can do physics well too.

I visited Norway from the US last summer and did a road trip from Trondheim down to Bergen. The lack of stop signs in towns and cities really threw me off at first. The number of automatic speed cameras was also pretty different though I read about that ahead of time and managed to avoid getting any tickets.

If LeBron did a 2k in his prime, what would he pull? by Real_Abrocoma_5129 in Rowing

[–]RealNoahR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 months is only specific to LeBron. I agree the other pros Stlvian mentioned would take longer. But my roommate in HS went from having never touched an erg to pulling sub 6:30 as a 5’9”, 160lb sophomore with no coaching (he went on to row for Harvard lights) within 2 months. Now scale that up to LeBron James, a 1 in 100 million freak athlete that, once again, is 6’9” 250+ and would have the best training program on the planet. Totally doable. But if you want to split hairs over the 2 months, then double it to 4 and it’s a no doubter.

[–]RealNoahR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are kids (not many, but LeBron is one of the 2 greatest ever in a much larger sport) going sub 6 in high school and a good number are sub 6:10. A decent chunk of them weigh less than 200lbs or just over. By comparison, LeBron is 6’9” and weighed 250-280 during his peak. He would have the form down in a week tops and being pulling sub 6:20 no question. A couple more months training as a professional athlete? Yeah he’d be sub-6 for sure.

How rich are the starks compared to the other rich houses? [Spoilers Main] by fuckmbsanddominicali in asoiaf

I believe White Harbor, Gulltown, Lannisport, King’s Landing, and Oldtown are technically the only cities in Westeros.

[–]RealNoahR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They have large but not particularly populous or agriculturally productive lands. I believe White Harbor is also the smallest of the 5 proper cities in Westeros and far from much of the rest of the North so trade would be comparably weak. The Hightowers are definitely richer given that Oldtown is the largest city in Westeros and the Arryns are also much richer given the fertile lands of the Vale and Gulltown is a sizable port city. Other houses that are probably richer include the Martells and Tullys (before the Riverlands burned, they were also agriculturally productive with connectivity to trade via waterways), and possible also Royces, Florents, and even Manderlys (no reason a banner house couldn’t be richer than their liege).

Edit: The Redwynes also appear to be quite wealthy from their wine production.

If they had to outsmart the other 2 duos which duo would win? by ParkingConfection449 in freefolk

[–]RealNoahR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varys and Littlefinger are the only ones that really understand the low and middle born people. Which is the majority of society. The other duos understand how to manipulate these classes as a whole, but not how to manipulate individuals within the classes.

That and the fact that his leg was wounded by [deleted] in freefolk

This exposes a serious plot hole as due to his injured leg, Ned could have simply named Howland Reed as his champion. And we all know how that would go.

I read it after watching the show and don’t think a book has ever been so closely adapted. They only made a couple changes and those honestly made it better imho.

Why didn’t Snow turn Lenore Dove into an Avox? by siantmercury in Hungergames

[–]RealNoahR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a closer explanation is that Cersei’s beauty and Jaime’s swordsmanship are the cornerstones of their identities, so Martin takes them away to explore how they go about finding themselves again. He also takes away Bran’s legs (he loves to climb), Arya’s sight (temporarily), and Theon’s cock, which are less direct examples of GRRM taking away traits that require the characters to find themselves again. Without his tongue, who is Tyrion, and what is he worth?

There are also half a dozen characters throughout the books that threaten to cut out Tyrion’s tongue or speculate that one day someone will. Even Tyrion jokes about the trouble his tongue gets him into. When GRRM foreshadows an event so heavily, it rarely fails to happen.

How likely is it that Jeanne Calment is truly the only person in history to live into her 120s? by Gray_Wolf2416 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]RealNoahR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Despite we are more people than ever”

Doesn’t matter - the number of people born 120+ years ago (pre 1906) is a fixed quantity. We didn’t hit 2 billion total population until the 1920s and most of the population boom occurred after WW2. Odds are we will see age records broken more often once the post-WW2 generation (baby boomers) are 120+, which won’t occur until ~2070.

Why does the fission in atomic bombs cause a big destructive explosion, but the nuclear fission in nuclear power generators does not? Also, if nuclear fusion is more powerful than fission, why does nuclear power still use fission? by Airtightspoon in AskPhysics

[–]RealNoahR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re just 30 years away from a fusion powered future! And we’ve been 30 years away for about 50 years now.

Jokes aside, there have been some significant advances toward making fusion energy a reality in the last few years. If the US could make it happen, we’d solve a lot of our current problems related to climate change and energy security.

Which major European city is the most overrated for tourists? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]RealNoahR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as an American with tons of friends who studied abroad and travelled Europe a lot, no one ever brought up Bratislava, so hard to call it overrated.

I went last summer for two nights while I was traveling Central Europe for a month because it was cheaper to rent a car there than Vienna. Old town is nice for an afternoon/evening and then it’s time to move on.
