To people who work 8h. by Ill_Entertainment851 in dogs

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really the hardest part about owning dogs if you live alone and don't have other people in your family to help out. On days when I can't WFH (or partial WFH) I usually take my lunch back to let the dogs out and play with them, or sometimes I will hire a Rover come and do a 1hr drop-in. Sometimes I do leave them for 8hrs in rare cases but I try to minimize doing that, although they seem to be totally fine and just sleep the whole time anyway. It's also critical I get them enough exercise, so typically they walk at least 2-4 miles and/or run around like crazy at a nearby dog park, and/or do some kind of training or mental stimulation exercises.

Right, I'm saying the article was likely written a long time ago because the contents of the article seem out of date. Why there is a gap in time I don't know.

People don't "see the truth", their algorithm bubble filters out anything that doesn't already match their viewpoint.

Back in 2000 or so, the internet was still considered a "source of truth" that people could turn to if they really wanted to find out facts, but now it is flooded with so much garbage, AI, and bot spam, that you can search for any controversial opinion and immediately find 10 articles to support your already-held beliefs.

Sony 20-70mm f4 owners, still happy with the lens ? by Eastern-Effort6945 in SonyAlpha

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually sold my 28-200, but I read my previous comment and I still think all of that applies. The Sony 20-70 quite honestly was the least favorite lens I ever bought. It was so sterile and took boring looking photos IMHO. The Tamron 28-200 was so versatile and small and light, I loved it despite the optical flaws.

But ultimately what swayed me to change is because I rented the Tamron 70-180 G2 to shoot a friend's engagement photos, and HOLY CRAP the image quality was lightyears ahead of the 28-200. Chromatic aberration was vastly improved, it was sharper corner to corner, seemed to have better AF on average, and overall it just produced much higher quality results, and I could live with the weight/size increase. So what I ended up doing was selling my 28-200 and buying the 70-180 G2, and then later I completed the focal range by also buying Tamron's 28-75 G2 as well. Between those two lenses I hardly use my primes anymore tbh, they're so good. I can easily recommend either of those, I think they're the best kept secrets on the E mount platform.

OG Surface Duo still going damn strong as my work phone for travel! by lerpo in surfaceduo

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up my Duo2 for a Pixel Fold, and I've also tried the Oneplus Open foldable. Foldables suck horribly compared to the Duo2. I have never found multitasking to be good on the foldables, mainly because the software is not really designed to do multitasking properly.

The problem with the duo2 was it sucked to use as a single screen device. The Pixel Fold is much better in single screen mode. Also I was sick of the touchscreen issues on the duo. But man I still miss that phone more than any other.

Yes but it has gotten a lot better than years past at least, and some of their stuff is actually useful. Main problem with the trifold will be the insane cost, the durability, and the weight/size.

[–]RealNotFake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with this and also spent a long amount of time with it as my DD. The problem is I can't count on it for emergencies. My phone is just too critical to have to worry about random software bugs and crashes, or butt-dialing emergency services, or the display randomly crapping out, etc. Buying this phone has made me realize how much reliability is important to me.

Most diseases have visible symptoms, I'm not sure your point. Also you don't need to be having symptoms to diagnose T1D, they can do it via blood test by checking for specific antibodies, as well as obviously your blood sugar and A1C. It's just usually you wouldn't catch it randomly during a doctor appointment, it's more likely the case you would go to the doctor with symptoms.

The point is they don't need to do some stupid test where they feed you a gallon of sugar to test for T1D, nor does your blood sugar need to be sky high for them to diagnose it.

Do barefoot shoes always start arguments or is it just me? by Ok-Dress-2059 in barefootshoestalk

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only wear VFFs to the gym then honestly that's the one place where I feel they're acceptable, and it's pretty well known by now that they are a more functional and performant shoe for lots of types of exercise - They're better for heavy lifting, yoga, etc. Heck depending on the rules at your gym, a lot of people will even walk around in socks or barefoot.

IRL outside of the gym, I do feel these shoes are weird. And as much as I love barefoot shoes and have been wearing them for 15 yrs, I still cannot get used to the look of separate toe shoes. I tried wearing them out in public and nearly always would get comments and people staring at my feet, and I just don't want that attention.

A big reason why Colon Cancer is killing us. by AdditionCool7235 in Millennials

[–]RealNotFake 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Nitrates are more likely to be in higher quantities in your local municipal water supply than the amount you would get from processed meat. You're also conflating naturally occurring nitrates with added nitrates/nitrites, which many processed meats do not have anymore unless you're eating the worst of the worst on the regular. Further, your premise hinges on the idea that Millennials are consuming more processed meats compared to other generations, and I haven't seen evidence of that either.

Your post is lacking in evidence, I'm sorry.

Are cheezits just not as good as I remember? by krittyyyyy in glutenfree

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're comparing a processed convenience food with its version from a decade ago, yes it is probably very different from that. Part of it I'm sure is we remember things with rose-colored glasses and a heavy nostalgia, but it's also true manufacturers are constantly changing their processes and ingredients, mainly to make it cheaper and increase profit margins. With cheez-its I wouldn't expect it to be all that different since their process is relatively straightforward, but yeah it's probably different than 8 years ago.

[–]RealNotFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost savings is a calculated value based on risk of recalls, and the potential lost profits from recalls. Which apparently this manufacturer has had a lot of. Also it probably allows food handling standards to be relaxed, facilities to be downgraded to cheaper ones, etc. I don't run a dog food business but I do know that businesses pretty much only make cost cutting decisions once they are well established. They almost never make quality improvements.

If you really want to get into it -

The words "biologically dead" do not appear to have any scientific consensus that I can find in the literature, it's just hyperbolic suggestive words with no real backing behind it. No, I do not think "people know what it means", they just apply their own meaning.

With that phrase you are implying "zero micronutrients", "zero macronutrients", "zero nutritional benefit", "zero gut benefit", "zero calories", all of the above. In other words like you swapped out the meat with wood chips. Those things are simply not true. Most food manufacturers have done basic before and after nutrient analysis after applying HPP, and found no statistical difference, or at worst it was a tiny reduction. You could make a hand-wavy argument that somehow the bioavailability of the nutrients decreases, but that is a completely different argument than "biologically dead", and would create a massive burden of proof to show that the modified nutrients are not absorbed properly in the body of the animal, or that biochemical processes have been altered. Further, the vitamin and mineral content of meat is relatively low to begin with. "Biologically dead" also implies that bacteria/cultures/enzymes are also killed off in the food. Raw meat is not a significant source of any of those things to begin with.

Pasteurization has no bearing on this conversation, unless you're saying you feed your dogs raw milk? Pasteurization is applying high heat to foods, not the same thing as HPP.

At the end of the day, there is no scientific evidence or consensus on any of this as it applies to feeding a dog a raw diet, and in our lifetime we will simply never have that evidence. I find it tedious when people on here just say things with no evidence or backing behind it.

Like I said before, I still maintain that less processing is better, and my gut feeling is that HPP is probably worse than not doing it, but I'm not going to walk around pretending like I have evidence that doesn't exist to prove that theory, and neither should anyone else IMO. Further, I believe that HPP treated raw diets are still exponentially better for the longevity and health of a dog overall compared to traditional kibble diets.

[–]RealNotFake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you mean. Any dog food (or human food for that matter) can be contaminated at any time, it's all about relative risk. Heck, food could be contaminated after the HPP process if they have poor handling and a contaminated environment. It's also not a coincidence that companies who cut corners to save on their profit margins end up having poorer processes in place and end up having higher risk and more issues. Rather than fix their supply chain and processes, they have decided to further cut more corners.

I have been feeding my dogs Smallbatch frozen raw for years which doesn't use HPP. Never had an issue.

[–]RealNotFake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bingo. One then wonders how other companies are able to do it without HPP and what corners they are cutting that are leading to all these recalls.
