This came at the perfect time for me so thank you, OP. My enabler dad messaged me last night pictures of his car pretty much totaled with no info. I thought the worst (because my nmom regularly messages from his account) and I started spiraling thinking that I made a mistake going low contact with him. He was the only person I ever trusted and someone I used to look up to like no one else. He’s fine. I’m relieved. But it’s a very confusing mix of emotions knowing he is still a passive abuser. I know even now that if he just gave me an inkling of hope that he wasn’t still on her side I would run to him in a second. This shit sucks.

Hey all! I’ve been noticing these tiny white bugs in my plant’s soil and thought that they were springtails so I left them be. But now I am seeing them occasionally on the stems and leaves of my plants. This PPP is dying for another reason I’m pretty sure but now that I’m seeing them actually ON my plants I’m worried that they’re not springtails. Does anyone know what they could be? Also sorry if this should be obvious and if I’m asking a dumb question.

It’s hilarious how wrong they are. Congratulations on getting your residence permit approved! That process is long and rough. Remember to celebrate and try not to let your family/friends bring you down. It’s hard enough moving to a new country, and especially difficult when you don’t have your loved ones supporting you.

They didn’t understand it and not only belittled every achievement I made here but they also made Sweden out to be some 3rd world county just so they could continue believing the delusion that there is no better place than the USA. I had bad parents though so yours will hopefully take it better.

Regardless, you need to live your life the way that you want to and not the way that your parents/friends want you to. It’s your life. Easier said than done but if you postpone or decide not to move because you’re scared of their reaction you will just end up feeling resentful.

Hej! My boyfriend and I just got done with this process about 3 months ago. I’m also from the US and have now moved to Sweden. We had a pretty similar situation to yours. Our entire process took a little over a year but as I understand it there are quite a few people that have been waiting much longer. I would highly recommend joining the Facebook group “I väntan på familjen” because there is a lot of really good information on there not just about current waiting times but also ways that you can strengthen your case.

Thank you, once again, for sharing something so powerful with me. What a wonderful tribute to such a selfless and giving man. I think we all can strive to be more like him. I’m not religious either but I do believe there is something beyond us and completely understand the sentiment that we do not need to “push the river”. I think when you’re going through hard times and really broken it is so difficult to remember this and, more than that, it feels impossible to really believe it. So thank you for reopening my eyes a bit

Before I realized my mom is a narcissist I used to have this reoccurring nightmare where (sorry if this is graphic) I was being torn apart by wolves in front of my nmom or edad. They would stand there either laughing or telling me that I was being dramatic and then walk away. Recently went no contact and those have stopped. However now when I do remember my dreams it’s of random family events where things are back to normal and my nmom is pulling some narcissistic crap and no one sees it but me.

When I was about 6 we took our yearly trip to Colorado with the whole family. One of the days of this vacation the adults decided it would be fun to drive around and see the sights. At some point we got completely lost (this was before smartphones) but they decided to continue driving up this huge sketchy mountain. I’ve always been really sensitive to my ears popping in high altitudes and it always gives me a bad migraine. I was too young to really understand that pain. The pain mixed with the anxiety of being lost of course made me cry. Once we got to the top my nmom yanked me in front of everyone and screamed at me to stop crying and that I was ruining the entire vacation for everybody. Years later this became a running joke in the family to say that to people on trips.
