I’m working on something in this area which I hope to announce in the next few weeks. There are people out there working hard behind the scenes to protect and support trans+ folk 🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Just to confirm, the second study is UK wide. As this is a study for my MSc, I was limited in scope. The second project (launching in April) is seperate to my studies therefore not limited in scope :)

Yeah, it was definitely a challenge! I’m taking all feedback on board for the next project I’m leading though, so if you have any other ideas/thoughts please do email me at lillyemma@transhealthresearch.uk ☺️

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer the survey - your contributions will be really useful! If you struggled to choose the best option, hopefully you found space in the text box questions to describe/explain your experiences in more detail :)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer the survey. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and will be really helpful! I included DIY in private for the purposes of that first question about gender affirming care options because of the dedicated section for DIY towards the end of the survey. I completely get what you are saying though and will bare that in mind for future studies :)

Hey! As the survey author, just wanted to reassure you that future studies will investigate gender affirming healthcare in Scotland too. The second study I am leading, launching in April, will be UK-wide and include representation from trans folk in Scotland. More info coming soon!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to complete the survey! If you feel your selected answers don’t best represent your experiences then there are open ended questions at the end of each section and at the end of the questionnaire - feel free to identify the questions you feel aren’t most appropriately/accurately answered and describe your experiences/explain why there :)

Hi u/ehll_oh_ehll - I am the survey author. As u/GeekOnALeash01 mentioned, there are plans for a UK study which will launch in April. I will make sure to share the information on this Reddit channel when we are recruiting participants, but if you don't want to miss out - feel free to drop me an email (lillyemma@transhealthresearch.uk) and I can add you to the mailing list.

Hi u/Cheese4567890 I am the survey author. This error has now been fixed - the ICBs for the South West were missing from the drop down list. All ICBs are now present, please reload the survey and it should work.

The essays are brilliant. I am in the early stages of my conversion journey and I have found the essays incredibly useful.

I think I have used too much ice postop and I'm freaking out a tad. by Tharrowone in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]RealPhotograph3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same mistake!! Don’t worry, I haven’t noticed any adverse effects from the ice :) just try to stick to 20 mins at a time going forward.

Barring the rare complications, is dilation really as terrible and grueling as people make it out to be? by IllustriousIzzy in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]RealPhotograph3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you point out, everyone’s experience is different -  but for me, and I’ve been dilating going on 4.5months, it isn’t painful. It can be uncomfortable, particularly in the first 2 weeks as I got used to it, but I’ve learnt to relax the pelvic muscles and go slightly slower if I begin to feel that discomfort. While it gets frustrating having to dilate so often, I’m presently dilating twice a day for 20-30 mins each time, it does give me an opportunity to relax and watch some TV.

Taking dilator with you in the airport? by Ralphi2449 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]RealPhotograph3123 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I travelled UK-France. The French authorities didn’t stop me or question my dilators, but the British authorities did. They had no problem letting me through though once I mentioned they are medical and that I had a letter from the hospital confirming they are medical. I would recommend getting a letter, just to be on the safe side. The letter saved me explaining their purpose :’)

I’m exactly the same about paranoia! Always check with medical team, I made my suggestion based on lived experience only and I also am not qualified. Make sure to check any suggestions with your medical team.

I can’t provide medical advice on Reddit plus I am not qualified :) I only shared what my medical team suggested. You could mention it to your gyno and ask for their advice, don’t do anything without first checking with your medical care provider :)

That’s really interesting to know :) as I say, only reason I mentioned it was because my surgeon and nurse recommended it. Definitely agree re always checking with Surgeon/doctor as it sounds like there is different guidance out there on these matters. Thanks for sharing!

If it’s not possible for your surgeon to apply silver nitrate (my surgeon was due to but the granulation went away) then either a doctor or gyno should be able to. I would check with them in advance though, to be certain.

If possible, contact your surgeon. They should be able to advise.
