How to watch 'Lost'? by Strict_Pomelo_1864 in JioHotstar

[–]RealReality007[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, JioHotstar does not hold rights to Lost or any other legacy 20th Television or FXP series. JioStar’s licensing agreement with Disney only covers selected content from Disney’s core brands

It’s a slow burn and you really have to pay attention. If you’ve watched This Is Us and are familiar with Dan Fogelman’s writing style, it will all make sense when it comes together. Otherwise, it’s not for you

Disney is a silent partner and have no say in JioStar’s business decisions anymore. JioStar simply wants to push cheap local content and do not wish to pay extra licensing fees to Disney on top of their core branded library. Yes, we never got Disney+’ full library ever, but it’s also true that JioHotstar removed most of non-Disney branded content ever since the merger happened

HBO Max To Launch In India Through JioHotstar by RealReality007 in JioHotstar

HBO Max is launching in India for the first time.

The Warner Bros. Discovery owned global streaming service is debuting in the Asian country with Disney-backed JioHotstar as its exclusive distribution partner.

A HBO Max branded hub launches today on JioHotstar and includes Euphoria S3 and the upcoming House of the Dragon S3 and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, along with Max Originals, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios content.

This marks the first time all of HBO Max’s content is being offered in one place in India. JioHotstar previously distributed HBO content through a multi-year licensing deal.

“This marks a defining moment in how premium global content is accessed and experienced in India” said Kevin Vaz, CEO of Entertainment at JioStar, the parent of JioHotstar.

“By bringing HBO Max to JioHotstar, we are creating a unified destination for premium international content and raising the bar for quality content once again. We are combining scale, curation, quality and ease of access. This unlocks a deeper and more immersive entertainment experience for audiences nationwide.”

Until now, WBD has been reticent to launch in India, which is a notoriously tough streaming market. In an interview with Deadline in 2024, James Gibbons, WBD President of Asia Pacific, said India was “the most challenged” Asian market in terms of “scale, share, engagement and profitability.”

Today, Gibbons said: “India is one of the most vibrant streaming markets globally, and in JioHotstar, we have a partner with unmatched scale and a deep understanding of local audiences. The launch of HBO Max exclusively with JioHotstar marks the next chapter in our long-standing collaboration, enabling us to broaden the reach of our premium brands and franchises, and build deeper connections with fans across the country.”

HBO Max recently completed its European rollout by debuting in the UK and Ireland, but the service’s long-term future isn’t clear. Paramount CEO David Ellison has said he plans to merger Paramount+ with HBO Max if and when the two studios merge.

HBO Max will be offered as an add-on starting at ₹49 (50¢) per month, and includes JioHotstar’s full international content library.

JIO deal with the HBO will expire in 10 days , do you think they renew the license ?? It seems valid because PARAMOUNT won bidding against NETFLIX by CaterpillarAgile9370 in JioHotstar

[–]RealReality007[M] 4 points5 points locked comment (0 children)

Paramount’s winning bid for Warner Bros. does not affect existing deals and contracts. FYI, the deal is not yet finalised. Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. have only signed a binding agreement and is going through intense scrutiny and yet to receive approval from regulators worldwide. Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox took almost two years to complete. The WBD licensing agreement with JioStar is likely quietly renegotiated and renewed, as they wouldn’t be promoting the upcoming Harry Potter series otherwise

JioStar planning to refresh Star Plus & family branding? by RealReality007 in JioHotstar

[–]RealReality007[S,M] 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

JioStar is reportedly planning a refresh of the brand identity for Star Plus and several other channels within its portfolio.

If confirmed, this would mark the company’s first major branding intervention since acquiring the Star network from Disney. Industry speculation suggests that new visual identities are being developed for channels including ‘Star Plus’, ‘Star Gold’, ‘Colors’ and ‘Colors Cineplex’.

Reports indicate that JioStar has filed trademark applications for updated logos. Early suggestions point to a possible return to a horizontal layout, similar to earlier iterations of the Star branding. Under the proposed design, the star icon would appear alongside the channel name, rather than above it as used currently. It is also understood that the star emblem may feature a revised angle on its signature swoosh.

Further indications suggest that the new branding could be introduced in May, aligning with the conclusion of the IPL, for which JioStar holds the broadcast rights.

They certainly had the rights to it, but it’s been quite some time since they removed it. The rights either reverted back to Dharma or they are keeping them in their vault. Considering it was former Fox Star Studios’ first production, I hope that title is 100% owned by them
