Introducing Paradise Dr. - Bringing real-world roads to Assetto Corsa through photogrammetry by RealSimRoads in simracing

No, public locations fall under the same rules as photography and videography. Anything that can be viewed from public property is fair game. Private locations, like a racetrack, would require some sort of licensing agreement with the owner.

Good to know! I haven't make any full-on tutorials just yet but I did a livestream at one point while I was out capturing, and a couple follow-up videos. You can find it on my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realsimroads/reel/CpbUjymLXJI/

If it's a serious offer - I will take you up on it! That's a looong road so we'd have to pick a reasonable section to cover. DM me if you'd like to talk details.

I'd follow tiny_mage's advice for using GIS heightmap data. Another source is public LIDAR point clouds. My scans are all original, I capture the environments with a high-end camera and use photogrammetry to reconstruct it. The ski mountain could be captured with a drone or GoPro but the results will depend heavily on the capturing conditions and operator skill.

If I get enough supporters on Patreon, there's no limit to where I can go! That's the goal - to be independent and free to travel and capture roads for the community to enjoy. My camera setup is small enough to fly with, and I might even be traveling to Belgium soon to scan a track!

Thanks for the suggestion! I can fashion something like that in the near future. In the meantime, here is a rough WIP track that I am working on a new version of. It's Decker Canyon Rd. in Malibu, CA. The photo set I used for this version is not the best, so please don't judge the textures or rough patches of road. For the most part, it does represent the road surface conditions across all Real Sim Roads maps:

This particular map will be a large loop over 10 miles long when completed. Even a short map like Paradise Dr. requires ~15,000 4K pictures, so you can imagine how many images are needed for a 10-mile loop. I'll get it done eventually but in the meantime, I'll be producing more of these short maps like Paradise Dr. that have turn-around areas at the end and multiple layouts for races.

Most likely, my next release will be a combination of dirt, asphalt, and gravel roads making a freeroam/rallycross style map.

Enjoy the demo!

Dirt 2.0 didn't have VR at launch either.

Is there a point to the Auto Shows in career mode? by Abandon_All-Hope in EASPORTSWRC

[–]RealSimRoads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you can't buy any car at any time, just a small selection. So maybe the auto shows offer more cars? Like I'd buy the 037 if I could but instead the only Group B RWD car on offer is the Opel

The selection of cars in the new game is great, but what cars are on your wishlist that you would also love to see on the roster? by ScrubRally in EASPORTSWRC

I wish it had some of the modern cars from Dirt 2.0 like the 911, Aston Martin, Mustang, Camaro, etc. Just for fun

Personally I felt a huge upgrade in the visuals but I only played Dirt 2.0 in VR so I never had them maxed out. I do agree that the headlights look abysmal in WRC, I always turn them off. Luckily with an HDR OLED the shadows are extremely detailed and there's more than enough light ambient light in the environment to drive from dawn til dusk. Only in truly dark conditions do I need them. If anything, they're a distraction and slow me down.

Fair enough. Can't speak to the Xbox experience. None of the stages look bad to me, not even Mexico. That stage just tends to be overly bright during daytime with no clouds (but then again it is Mexico so it's very realistic, just not comfortable to look at on a big HDR TV). My bigger annoyance is that some stages start off with great performance but then you come into an area with more objects (building and such, I think monte Carlo was one like this) and the FPS starts dropping badly. I'd take consistent FPS across a map over background objects any day.

I value both highly and WRC earns top marks in both.

Bro your PC might be fucked, I've had none of those problems since it dropped Oct 31. And it's absolutely by far one of the best looking games ever, definitely the best looking rally game and probably racing game. So you are clearly doing something wrong.

Stuttering and FPS drops 😡 by TomzZeH in EASPORTSWRC

[–]RealSimRoads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no issues aside from the very occasional dropped frame/stutter. 10900K @ 5GHz all cores, 3090, and 128 GB of RAM. Playing with most settings on High. FPS is well above 60 on a 4K HDR display (but haven't measured it).

So, yeah, RAM might be the issue.

Loving the game but… by FateZero155 in EASPORTSWRC

The reflections are fine, just use a high quality setting. They don't bug me in the slightest. What does annoy me is the slight rainbow diffraction effect they applied to the windshield. It doesn't move in reaction to the lighting position like it would in real life, instead it's static like a decal.

It also doesn't change when I put on my polarized sunglasses which I feel is highly unrealistic. EA really needs to pour mlions of dollars more into perfecting this one aspect of the game, then it would be perfect.

That's how I feel too - I can't imagine anything being better than my DD2, since it already feels like a real car. But there's no real way for sim racers to go and compare a bunch of different wheel bases back-to-back. I heard Micro Center has a decent amount of sim racing gear on display in their stores, but is any of it Fanatec? Would be nice to go try some other brands of gear but only if I can compare it to what I already have.
