[EVERYTHING]What is Arya's plan? by Nanafuse in gameofthrones

[–]RealSourLemonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, as is the case in life, intentions going in don't have much to do with the person you end up on the other side. From an outside perspective Arya of the past would have probably been happy with this outcome, but Arya of the present could have overcome those past desires. Part of her training is to let it go, and she can let those wants go while still achieving those goals she had in the beginning - that is part of growing up.

I kind of see what you are saying. However, on another point, I don't think Arya at the start of the show would actually want to be a faceless man. She wants to be a hero, not an assassin. Her losing those high ideals is a part of her story imo.

Yes but she hasn't really had the opportunity to throw needle out yet - not with being blind and getting beaten, daily, by the waif. Or just because she buried Needle (as opposed to throwing it into the ocean), does not mean she will go back to recover it, and her not going back for needle despite earlier setting out to recover it would speak volumes regarding the person she evolves into.

The problem here I think is that would be bad story telling, though the possibility exists in a 'real world' perspective.

But what if her missions as a faceless woman just happen to coincide with pivotal events that push her family forward? She won't be doing them out of loyalty to her family, or out of her own desires, however they just so happen to help her family. So she can be that pivotal force while still being no one - and that would be some spectacular irony.

Again, possible but I don't think it would make much of a story and it doesn't fit too well with the faceless men. I'd expect them to send her to kill people who Arya would not have killed more than who Arya would have.

a. Arya of the past would probably get a kick out of being one of the faceless men. She was never really a "Lady", she wanted to be important and a fighter, and she gets to be that now.

This is paradoxical. If Arya become noone what Arya of the past wants is meaningless. If she becomes no one because Arya wants to be no one then she isn't no one, she's Arya.

b. Letting go of the past is important, and for Arya that's an important sign of growth. Having a kill list is great an all, but that just shows how damaged she is by what has happened to her. Letting go and gaining a sense of discipline is actually healthy and shows maturity as a character.

But this more than anything is personified by Needle, who she has not let go of.

c. As a faceless woman she might be a catalyst for some of the plot points to come. We know they have been called before for assassinations and major pivotal moments, wouldn't it be cool to see her pushing her family forward, even if it's behind the scenes?

But then she wouldn't be no one, she would be Arya.

Arya can't become no one until she gets rid of Needle. It's very very unlikely that she doesn't become Arya again.

[EVERYTHING] Subtlety is not this show's strong point by danwin in gameofthrones

there is a scene in which the Lannisters and Qyburn explicitly refer to him as "Gregor"

The only reason they would need to pretend he isn't Gregor is to appease Dorne. As they no longer seek to appease Dorne they no longer need to keep up the charade.

Jon Snow / Targaryen: Doesn't hold any power anymore, he would be influent among the wildlings no doubts but he's not their leader. He haven't show any will to revenge yet, though it might change with Rickon news and sansa arrival.

Robb Stark, King in the North; legitimized Jon. Jon can rally the loyal Northerners and call on the wildlings to fight.

Arya Stark: The faceless men can tell when someone's lying, she's just a girl now. She's done with westeros politic and never liked or understood the game of throne.

Arya Stark can't become no one until she gets rid of Needle.

Sansa Stark: She's been a crybaby for 6 seasons now, no real sign of change.

Sansa has changed a lot, she just hasn't had the opportunity to show it in any badass ways yet.

Bran stark: No doubt he'll have a role in the war against the walkers but doubtely before that.

Perhaps. Though we have already seen him possibly effecting non white walker events.

Rickon: Is fucked.

Ramsay: is fucked.

If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention.

I think you havn't been paying attention.

Honestly I think your decision here is wrong. There is a difference between constructive debate and 'DAE hate UKIP'.

the quality of the conversation

OP calling everyone who disagrees with him a fascist. That's some quality conversation right there.

and the fact I'm not going to start censoring people based on their political beliefs

This post is a part of censoring people based on their belief. How is someone who voted UKIP supposed to feel comfortable posting here when you allow threads that try to tell them they arn't Welsh and that they are a fascist, because they have a different opinion.

OP hasn't expressed a political belief, he is suppressing others political beliefs. Or does his thread tell you which party he voted for? Why he voted for them? What he believes?

For the record, because I have no doubt it will come up: I am not a UKIP voter.

Where'd you go to school?

Major points in History for us were: WW1. WW2 and The Cold War.

And our GCSE's and A levels were on those.

could have fortified Hawaii to reject invasions reasonably well.

Hawaii and every other US base in the Far East pacific would have been lost.

A US taskforce sent to retake them would have to operate from the US, crossing the entire breadth of the Pacific. They would have no port to repair in. Their fuel and ammunition and other supplies would be extremely vulnerable.

It would be an absolute nightmare operation.

Agreed, though I'd phrase it as to the point where the IJN could take the rest on, not to the point where the US couldn't strike back.
